Damn, thats a sick looking grow op. Shame it got busted... Anyone know how long they've been growing or how exactly they got caught?
this type of large scale operation is not all too uncommon, its just not talked about much because no one wants to get caught. large growing operations (farms, even plantations) can and do exist even in the midst of a hostile environment such as the USA. you don't really think that all the pot you smoke is homegrown or mexican, do you? in a country with a shitload of open space and privacy laws, it just makes far more sense to grow it domestically than to try and smuggle it across international borders, especially when the stakes are very high. large scale growing operations form the backbone of the north american cannabis trade, even though very few people know about the specific ways in which they're operated and concealed. anyone remember when that grow op got busted in ontario a year or two ago....they had taken up operations in a disused brewery, growing shitloads of plants. well inevitably some people end up getting busted. but the vast majority of these grows are sophisticated enough to elude suspicion. the big boys know how to keep their mouths shut, know to keep well groomed and take precautions to prevent looking suspicious (anyone remember the scene in lock, stock, and two smoking barrells where the dude walks in to the house with a bag of fertilizer and a really fucked up girl clinging to him?) its not uncommon for large operations to be found in forests and parks and other relatively vacant land, often with camps and such set up for living space nearby. the most successful though, i would suspect, are better concealed inside buildings and literally underground. cellars, old bomb shelters, abandoned mines, caves, some of the bigger old underground railroad spaces, all of these can successfully be used to house a secret and large scale grow op if you do it properly.
