I have had backcoming done and then i had it waxed, i left it for about a week and then i washed it with the propa dred shit. After i dried it they recon this is a good time to palm role so i done that with some wax but its looks shit, it looks like its taking out the back coming. Is this supose to happen or are people talking pure bullshit saying palm role is good? or even back combing? what the fucks the point in backcoming if palm roling ruins it?. Maybe im just being to impatiant here, its only been trying to dread for bout 2weeks
Why do so many people say wax helps then? and what about palm roling is that a waste of time too? i want controlled dreds that dont look like a fking dog stuck to my head
wax turns locks into a big gloopy mess, and sticks the hairs together so they cant move around, tangle up and eventually knot. in my own experience, wax hindered the progess massively. palm rolling.. its a bit of wasted effort tbh. if you roll them all nice and round, and then sleep on them/wear a hat, theyre all ganna get squished arent they. if you wanna do it every day, then go for it,, i dont really see the point. i dont do it on mine, and theyre all flat and smushed, but also starting to matt up quite a bit =] id say my dreads are relatively 'controlled'. i have tons of frizz and loose hairs, but you can see the sections etc. if you want perfect dreads from the word go, maybe crochetting them is for you but id defo say get the wax out and start over =]
Ok thnx for the answers so far, one more thing.. do you think that using bands at root/tip is also a good idea?
Most people in this forum haven't used bands. You may want to read this. http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=364273&f=209 Lots of great info. It's our FAQ thread.
no, i dont think bands are a good idea, especially at the root. its all the same garb about hair needs to move, and if youre restricting it (espesh at the roots) it may not lock as well with my previous 2 sets of dreads, i used bands at the tips, and it didnt do anything except make them look tidier. defo didnt help knots form or anything with this set of dreads, i just backcombed them and have since let them do what they want. a helluva lot of them pretty much fell out or got waaaaaayyyy looser, yet others are knotting up quite nicely. ive got several inches of normal, straight, undreaded/knotted hair per section, whereas at the root its tangled and matted. its just part of the fun tbh
Well, for the sake of my job i think ill keep the bands in atleast for 2 or 3 month, maybe the middle will lock enuf so that when i take them out (or cut them out) the dreds would have formed a bit more tidy looking and i wont get sacked under the assumtion of being a drugy. Most of the roots feel really tight and knoted though, perhaps the bands do help a little?
Just keep an eye on them and look out for damage. They seem to work differently for different people, so just go by your own judgement on that one.
not after 2 weeks dear, you dont even have dreads, you have sections of backcombed hair. i understand what you mean though, especially if they were tightly backcombed by the root. most of it will come loose sooner or later anyway
They are going too like shitty tangled hair for months. It's part of it. Any maintenance is a waste of time as well as bands...Palm roll, root rubbing, crochet, or anything is really worthless...just gives you instant satisfaction is all but the next day you will get frustrated because all "work" has just worked themselves out of knots. Wait 6 months to a year before worrying about shit.
lmao if you're gonna use bands make sure you rotate them, replace them, etc, if you keep them there for too long, sometimes they melt with the heat off your head. google this shit and you will see, it looks gross, like tar stuck in your dreads. but bands aren't necessary. edit: for the record i used bands before i saw that, and wax before i came here, and my dreads are fine.
