For real. Can you believe the shit that has transpired in the last 24 hours?

The season was cancelled by Bettman on Wednesday, or whenever the fuck it was, with no room for negotiation, today they offer another proposal. And that is only the start!

For those of you who care and don’t bother to follow the lockout as religiously as myself, a group of players headed by the two pillars of hockey, Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux, got the two sides together yesterday in hopes of saving the season. There were reports from almost every major sports network that a ‘deal in principle’ had been reached with a cap at 45 million.

It turns out that there are five owners in the league that wouldn’t budge from the 42.5 million cap figure.

2.5 million dollars cost the NHL the year. What is worse is that it was 2.5 million that they wouldn’t have to spend.

There are sources that say that those owners did not want to play the year because any negotiations after the season was cancelled would not have a cap in the 40 million dollar range. The players will be lucky to get a 30 million dollar cap from here on in. The reason those owners want a cap lower than 30 ... SO THEY COULD MAKE MONEY THAT THEY WOULDN’T HAVE MADE BY THEMSELVES!!

Time to rename the NHL the WHL. Not world or western, but WELFARE HOCKEY LEAGUE.

Still, 70% of the public still blame the players for this lockout citing greed.

 

I personally think that a salary cap will have a good effect on the league... it'll diversify the talent a little bit, and you won't have all these shitty expansion teams that only play trap (if you don't follow hockey, the trap isn't very fun to watch).

i say screw the nhl this year - at first i was pissed because i'm an albertan originally, and to be locked out after the flames did so good last year was pretty lame, but now i dont care. I'm going local for a while.

 

i find poker has become a good replacement for hockey

 

The whole situation just sucks. I do know who I blame... it's the players that are making beaucoup de bucks.

It's the run of the mill player who are really getting screwed in the lock out. Its these players that are being effected...not the players that make multi-millions, because they really don't NEED the money... their family have plenty of food on the table. Plus, the NHL pention plan is crazy.. you have to play something like 500 games to even qualify. Most players don't have 20 year careers, they only have 3 year careers, so being locked out is basically cutting a whole year from their careers, so they probably won't qualify for the pention... and they are the ones that need it.

One girl just ask if anyone was interested in beer and skinny sipping and all you do is complain about the hockey season being cancelled!
