I am currently watching the movie ghandi, about the man who peacefully overthrew the british government, without firing a shot, without beheading one englishman, without derailing one train. And i realized, we need an Iraqi like Ghandi in Iraq, who opposes the US occupation, but does not kill innocent people to get his point across. That would make the anti-war effort SO much better, and help with the stereotypical image of Iraq being filled with violent terrorists. Peace and Love, Dan
We need a man like Ghandi in the US. One that does not kill innocent people to get his point across or line his pockets. it would make the anti-war effort SO much better, and help with the stereotypical image of America being filled with violent terrorists. Guess it just depends on what side of the fence you're sitting on
Ghandi wouldn't do shit for the US. Even a US born Ghandi wannabe won't help. Idealist heroes cannot influence politics now-a-days, especially not in the US.
We should start a business selling Ghandis. It seems like they're in popular demand, and I've even made us a logo and catchphrase:
I bet if someone went on a 30 day hunger strike in front of the white house it would get a lot of attention Peace and Love, Dan
We had a Ghandi-like leader here in the U.S. once (Jimmy Carter) and he was shredded to pieces by hawks like Reagan et al. We threw him to the wolves because he was perceieved as being too "passive" and peace loving. Jimmy is still a hard-working man of peace, standing up for the down trodden, building homes for the poor, mediating elections and donating his time through the Carter Center here in Atlanta. Remember when he won the Nobel Peace Prize? Yup, we all say we need a Gandhi-esk type here in the U.S. but we wouldn't appreciate him/her if we ever found one. I hope Carter mediates our national election like he did in some developing countries years ago. We need his unbiased expertise to watch over all the shenanigans that may take place once again.
GAVE US A HOSTAGE CRISIS???? You're way too much. It happened while he was in office. The same way the Berlin Wall fell while Reagan was in office. Simply a matter of space and time. ROTFLMAO.
He didn't give it to us, but he sure as hell didn't bring it to an end. Reasoning with fundamentalists is impossible. He also launched a poorly planned and even more poorly carried out rescue mission. Gerald Ford would have been a much better president.
I don't think they'd really care. If some rich prick wants to not eat while stanging on a pulblic sidewalk thinking other people will give a shit, more power to 'em. In fact, I'd show up with a Big Mac and a Quiznos Sub for everybody in attandance. Plus I'd personally have the event catered. Chicken Paremesian (sp?), rolls, baked ziti and canolis for everbody.
How true that is and all the more reason why Bush should NOT occupy the most powerful office in the world nor Ashcroft control our Justice system (being diehard fundies themselves).
so we've basically agreed that we're in desperate need for at least one ghandi, one mother teresa, and a side order of mandela. i also think for the sake of compromise that we don't have them as president. they'd be ineffectual and underappreciated.
