when i told my mom i wanted to be a vegetarian she was like yur the only person in our family that eats good you cant be a vegetarian you should just find companies that treat their animals good. but all the big food busineses dont buy from those companies. So i found a company that sells eggs and milk that treat all their animals nice but i still wanna be a lacto-ovo-vegetarian... at least for a while. Peace, Little Hippy
i admire you. i know some people think meat from humane farms is okay, but i don't think eating any kind of meat is okay. we don't need to eat it, so why do we continue killing animals for our taste buds?
Exactly...and Science only shows that a meat free diet does nothing but benefit your health and make you feel better. I like the Meat replacements (And i don't eat boca or morningstar because I am a vegan) better than actual meat, it just tastes and feels a lot lighter and won't end up giving you heart burn after you eat it. Peace and Love, Dan
Ciao^_^ Well done mate, keep it up. Being vegetarian is a good choice, both for your health and for the respect for animals. You will not find easy at the beginning and you will find a lot of people telling you that, vegetarian diet is not good. They are wrong!
you should inform your mom that eating a well rounded vegetarian diet *is* eating good. did she list any reasons for thinking it would be not eating well?
It's fucked up that your parents don't support that. My parents LOVE that I eat healthy. They go out of their way to buy me shit anyways, particularly food, so it's no diffence to them whether it's hot pockets or garden burgers.
my parents really weren't supportive when i became vegetarian. they knew how sick i had been for so long and they weren't preaped to accept it for "while," like it was some phase or something. we fought the first thanksgiving b/c i didn't eat grandma's turkey (despite grandma not knowing and not caring). slowly its becoming more accepted by them and the rest of the family. its taken awhile, but it took a long time of sticking to what i feel is important for her to finally accept things as they are. she went form apologizing to people to it just being the way thigns are. almost like she is almost proud of it or something. don't give up. there is a ton of research out there showing that vegetarians are healthy and fully capable.
I had to try the whole vegetarian twice before it stuck. Every holiday, we went to my grandparents house for dinnr and stuff, but most of everything they had was meat. I basically just got tired of it. I tried it again once my girlfriend started for it, and I've done really well since then. I don't know why people would put other people down for being a vegetarian. The way things are going, provided our civilization lasts long enough, everyone may very well become vegetarians in time.
That's right, a vegetarian diet can be very healthy. In fact, studies indicate vegetarian young people have healthier diet habits than their burger-munching peers. You may want to show your mom this info on healthy vegetarian diets from the respected Mayo Clinic: http://www.mayoclinic.com/invoke.cfm?objectid=89AFCCB3-E1F7-4541-9A90745760BAA899 . She may also be interested to know that eating "free range" meats can be more difficult than eating vegetarian. Most restaurants and many stores stock only factory-produced meats. Organic meats represent only about 1% of the total meat market, and are often considerably more expensive. In addition, it can be difficult to verify the true conditions under which these meats are produced (some "organic" farms raise their animals under factory conditions, but just refrain from feeding them chemicals). So, in some cases, it can actually be easier to be a vegetarian. Boca burgers, veggie dogs, soy 'sausage' patties and similar tasty mock meat products are sold at many restaurants. In addition, many restaurants offer bean burritos, pasta marinara, veggie sub sandwiches, soy burgers and more. Also, you can come to this forum for support, people generally have a lot of advice to give.
somethin really weird happened... all of a sudden my mom just started being supportive, she started buying all of this veggie stuff and it tastes great. I'm so happy!!
