Well although your right now situation is shitty, it will be exciting and cool to get to 'start over'. I did that once, it was the best thing I've ever done.
sweet, at least one download finished already. i just watched an episode of nova called "cracking the maya code" that was pretty fascinating. i'm particularly curious about their system of numeration. from the sound of the program, they use a base 5 system (bars represented 5 of something, a dot represented 1) i was curious because with the way it was described i thought initially it was base 10, like most of the western world uses. the person describing the realization of how they used numbers made it seem like an obvious jump from a lack of understanding to a base 10 system, but i misinterpreted what was said and it is obviously base five. i looked up some brief information about systems of numeration, and it's said that base five, base ten, and base twenty are all more or less the same and related, based on the number of digits on a hand (or foot) base five is simple hand counting, base ten is doubling that, using both hands. some instances of base twenty have apparently occurred, which in a primitive culture would have likely correlated with counting toes as well as fingers. i also read that in at least one known culture in what is now northern california, a base eight counting system was used, counting not the digits but the gaps between them. each hand has four spaces between digits, and counting on both hands that renders eight. i've always been curious about why ten is assumed to be so universal as a counting system, and i think i have a better understanding after thinking about it and looking a few minor things up. i also am relieved to learn of at least one culture which used a system of numeration totally foreign to that used in most cultures today. most use 10s, but it's easy to go from that to 5s or 20s. but to use base 8 strikes me as unique and to be honest pretty cool. boring to most, i'm sure, but i got to watch my show and i learned some new things. also i've had more than my fair share of wine for the day so it's been a great night.
I'll be okay Luna, it's the price of taking up year long projects. Grow close to people and have to let them go. Thanks Priss.
personally i'd rather be working at a job where i had tuesdays and wednesdays off. but i still think making plans to make a big deal out of the eve's of whatever days you have off is more of a waste of them then not.
