Hey, I love that book. It was the first Doors book I read years ago. One of the writers (Jerry Hopkins I think) wrote another book about Morrison called The Lizard King which is pretty good as well.

Its pretty good, but doesn't go into the actual concerts and performaces as much as it probably could have. Break on Through I think gives the best feel for what The Doors were actually like on stage. (if a book can do that)

I also read this book and thought it was cool as fuck. I liked the beginning learning about morrison's childhood. Learn something new everyday

I've read No One Here Gets Out Alive as well as Riders on the Storm by John Densmore..
They were both very good reads, but I thought having John's point of view was kind of interesting.

I thought it was pretty good. I like the little stories. They are kind of funny, and you can just pictures Jim Morrison doing those crazy things. It's not a book I would buy though. A one time read.

The funniest joke ever is in that book (Jim's telling it to someone):

Whats the difference between a clever midget and VD?
    One's a cunning runt.

The book was very entertaining, indeed. I read one pretty much alike this one about Janis Joplin, but it totally ignored the artist and just talked about the sex-and-drug-crazed maniac... :D :D

This one, while it was a lot about Jim's personal life, was good, though.

this was an amazing book!! i just finished reading it a month or so ago and i have a deeper appreciation for the Doors... i would recomend it to anyone who is interested in them.... the one thing it didn't go into much though, was the other doors, it was mainly about jim which makes sense b/c it was his biography, but still.. i think ya know what i mean...

I, too, thought this was one of the best books ever -- when I was 12.

Now I think that Sugarman's fawning adulation is nauseating. Morrison was brilliant, but also tragically perverse and infantile.

I've read many biographies on Jim Morrison, this one is my favorite. What are your thoughts on this book? What's your favorite Jim Morrison biography?

I like The Lizard King the best. It seems to be more focused on Jim's personal life, whereas No One Here Gets Out Alive seems to focus more on his career. I think they both are great books, so it's just a preference.
