I can't remember where I read this, but apparently the vagina is a self cleansing organ. So why do women use douches?

maybe because it discharges "stuff" from the cleaning process.

I don't know if it's related, but it's my complete guess.

because some women are incredubly insecure unless their vagina smells like a boquet of flowers.

Yes, the vagina is self-cleaning. Some women use douches after menstruation and sometimes even after sex because it makes them feel cleaner. Others use them when they have a yeast infection, thinking it will help make it go away. I don't think it's a very good idea no matter what the reasoning.

Actually, in that regard, if you mix your own douche (DO NOT use a commercial douche for this), using the right medicinial ingredients, it can be medicinally efficacious, at least from what I've read. In this usage, it's just a way to get the medicine up there, not that different from the way you squirt the cream up there if you get an old-style prescription (before diflucan!).

Yes, the vagina is a self-cleansing organ. Usually, women use douches for purely cosmetic reasons, which is harmful, not beneficial. It throws off the natural balance in the vagina, making that person more prone to infection.

I think most women use douches because they're insecure and they've bought into what the advertising industry wants them to believe. It's the same with lots of other products, too.

Yeah it's a smell-thing, and they're totally bad for you. I remember learning about them in sex ed (gr 9) and our teacher was saying that if you use them you'll get way more infections than if you just use nice warm water. Although someone else once told me if you use something that's non-scented, that that's ok too, you won't get an infection. I dunno *shrug*

In my opinion douches are for douches. HAHA.

No really, I'm just joking. But, I don't think they are a good idea.

I've read things about douches and how they are actually bad for your female organs. They can help cause yeast infections and the like.

Anyway, douches from what I understand are very old fashioned. My mother was telling me about how her mother had said it was a "good" idea to douche after your period every month. Nah... that's what your period is FOR, to clean you out. And, it's old fashioned in the sense that in those times, when douches were extremely popular, were also the times that a womans period was "the curse"

I think it's best to stay away from them.
