It seems when I am not smoking pot. I always seem to have nightmares when I go to sleep. And when I am smoking pot I don’t seem to have dreams at all. Dose this happened to anyone ells? When I have nightmares I wake up all sore and stiff

When I go to sleep high I usually have very trippy and pleasant dreams. I usually can't even tell when I've had a dream/nightmare when I'm not high.

No, maybe you should go talk to a psychiatrist about that.

Man I if I go to sleep I have crazy dreams, I usually remember them, but I didnt this weekend...

Also, i went to sleep with some Moby playing(supposedly to relax me more) and I was still blazin, and I was in that stage between awake and asleep and I heard someone in my room throwing shit, and it scared me so bad i jumped up and i could still hear it and it slowly morphed back into the song... it was really just the drums in hte music, but for some reason itw as really loud and when i started focusing and becoming more awake it slowly morphed into the song.. and it was weird as hell so i went back to sleep.

I've noticed that I remember my dreams if I go to sleep high, and I'm not normally a person that dreams. Never had a problem with nightmares They're usually just strange and vivid, but not scary.

my dear, there are two very simple solutions. Dont stop smoking weed, or masterbate daily with a large cucumber or coconut shell.

most people don't dream when they go to bed high (which is NOT a good thing because you're never reaching the dream stage) whether your dreams are good or bad is mostly contingent upon your worries and fears, whether or not you're consciously aware of those fears... try remembering them by writing them down every morning then interpreting them. if you need help with dream interpretation, buy a book or ask an expert.

    ok heres the shit:
when you smoke weed just before going to bed, you will not have teh same dream cycle. you will dream but less, and you generally wont remember it because you tend to wake up in a deep sleep mode. this is what causes the cloudiness the next day and less short term memory.

now, when you dont dream enough, your brain actually keeps track of how much youve missed, and makes up for it when it can. so when you stop smoking, your brain has HEAPS of shit it needs to release in the form of dreams (that it didnt get to release as much when you were going to bed stoned), so your dreams when you stop smoking are often increidbly vivid and for some, emotional.

what dreams you experience are up to the person. women experience more nightmares than men i believe. personally, i seldom have a nightmare and when i do experience scary things in my dreams, theyre not that bad, i just find solutions. i think this carries into my normal life, and i take dreaming as a real learnign experience for coping with issues.

however people often think that becuase they dont remember their dreams, they didnt have any. a normal person whos on no drugs will spend a large portion of their sleeping time dreaming. everyone dreams every night. when you rememebr a dream, you usually only remember the last one you had in the night, and its generally only when you wake up FROM teh dream, and reflect on the dream. youll then remember the things you reflected on. this is because you cant translate the working memory into actual longer term memory unless your awake. at te same time however, usually you remember dreams (the ones you do actualyl remember) for a very long time.

jennifer, what you experience is absolutely totally normal. your problem is however, that your dreams consist of nightmares. this is normal, but not pleasant. dreams reflect your emotional thoughts, desires, fears, etc. one theory is that whenever you have a thought on a desire or fear or something emotional, but dont express it or resolve it, then your brain will do so inside a dream, in a metaphorical manner

I seem to dream less when I've smoked, but much of the time I don't remember my dreams anyways. Only the last dream of the night, right before I wake up. Those tend to be more vivid when I don't smoke. I can't remember the last time I had a BAD dream, though. Even when bad things happen (the other night I was being chased through the forest by a monster, I think a T rex actually) I dont take it too seriously, and seem to act more like it's an adventure.

I wonder if you really don't dream when you've smoked, or if you just don't remember. It'd be easy to test, just watch the sleeping stoner and see if there's any REM. I know I was having a really cool dream about body surfing 40 foot waves the other morning, and I'd smoked the night before.

Bill, interesting info, seems to match my experience. Where do you read this stuff?

all over the place. and hypothesise and observe, you know all that sort of stuff.

caus its hard to find definitive info on any psychological things, psychologists are sadly often bad at what they do, so i tend to read little theories or info from everywhere and put it together.

Me too, but I never see stuff about weed. I must be reading the wrong websites, haha. I agree, though, that psychologists are a very confused lot, lol.

looks like theres some good responses here. anyway, from what i understand, excessive amounts of THC can in many people suppress REM sleep, and so you will dream less, and be far less likely to remember any of it. when the THC is stopped, you generally will have what's known as REM rebound sleep, where your body will make up for what it's been missing (REM sleep is necessary for a fully rested body and mind; this is why i think a lot of stoners are lazy and tired a lot of the time) and you'll engage in far more instense periods of REM sleep during your normal sleep cycles. this would lead to longer, fuller, more intense dreams. if you have a lot of underlying issues or stress you aren't adequately recognizing and dealing with, or if you are constantly anxious or fearful or stressed out, you may influence your dreams with these mindsets and emotions.

    intense dreaming+negative feelings=nightmares
