I went on a night hike for a few hours in the nature preserve in my area, I haven't done that in a while and it was awesome. I know the trails very well so no problems getting lost and only used my flashlight in certain areas.
The sounds of crickets on the ground and cicada high in the trees sang their song as I walked and listened.

Occasionally I'd stop to scan around me with my light to see the glowing eyes of a critter, then turn off the light and listen to it move about.

The moon was out in the clear sky peeking through the trees to say hello and to thank me for the visit...

    ...and I shall visit again.

    Peace everyone,

It's good fun. I love it most in the winter, with a nice snowfall and a decent moon. No need for lights! And it's never more quiet.

yeah man, that's most likely when I did the last night hike... I agree, it's very cool in the snow.

That would be a awesome thing to do in the fall or even on Halloween.

I hear ya, I always hike in the fall... the colors are enchantingly beautiful. I call that time of year "Flannel Weather", it's a great time for a campfire gathering. Make sure you clear away a large circle of leaves around the fire area.
