Pink Moon has got to be one of my favourite albums ever...

"take a look and you might see me on the ground...cos' I am the parasite in this town"

What do you think of the guy?

Five leaves Left is my favourite album, but Bryter Lyter and Pink Moon are also works of genius.

'Pink Moon' certainly is beautiful, I love how at first it sounded so simple, Nick-Guitar-Piano, excellent writing and lovely melodies. But the more you listen to it, the more notes you hear on that guitar. Must be hard to play Nick Drake I imagine.

So yeah, strange really how such a calm album would be one I'd suggest to hear a brilliant guitarist. That blend is pretty special.

Drake is legendary, its a great shame he died before his music became well known and gain a massive worldwide cult following. His songs sound very simple at 1st listen, but as you listen furtherm the complexities of some of his guitar playing is beautiful, and how you even begin to time some of his pieces is beyond me! Especially on Pink Moon, I just love the concept of there just being a man and his guitar, working in harmony, although i've more recently been listening to Bryter Layter in some depth, which is phenomenol and probably his best album, although the great thing about him is you can put on a different one of his albums depending on the mood you're in.

Also, heard a bootleg I got of the net of him playing Bob Dylans 'Don't think twice' sound quality was a bit poor but it was cool tohear

His music is so beautiful and the lyrics are so perceptive...what's not to like?

It great music to chill out too...i've managed to download a couple of bootleg live tracks that are pretty stunning...there is a great cover of a song called "been smoking too long". If anyone wants it pm me and I can try and email it to you or something.

Like Rory mentioned it's a real shame about his struggle with personal demons and the relative lack of success when he was alive. It almost seems like his life was supposed to follow the path it did though. It's created this cult status .

There was a documentary on tv in the UK recently that said his music had an almost otherworldly quality...as if it wasn't meant to be listened too at the time. The song fruit tree seems to sum it up well.

    Lyrics For Fruit Tree

The site below is pretty good if you want to find out more, the lyrics and a bit of history are on there...and if you like to cack handedly fumble with a guitar like me you can even try and recreate some of his elegant fingerpicking!

    I love Nick Drake!

I've got my grandma to thank for that - she loved him and introduced his music to me. She had the box set of all his albums on vinyl

I've got a biography of him sitting on my shelf that I keep meaning to read. It's by Patrick Humphries, anyone read it??

I remember reading somewhere else that although on first listen the music sounds quite simple his guitar style is actually very unique and pretty complicated.

I only started listening to him a couple of years ago. Wish it had been sooner.
