Just wondering, like I know the way sports works: MLB does 162 games, NBA AND NHL both do 82 games, but how come the NFL only does like 16 or 18 games or so? Or only play like One game a week? Just curious, always wondered why they don’t do a longer season of games maybe?
Too much of a physical beating on the body. I only played in high-school, but the deep muscle bruises, bone bruises, muscle strains, cuts, scrapes, etc all take a toll towards the end of a season. That week between games is needed to heal up before the next one. I also played baseball and basketball in HS. Those are far less taxing on the body. I never played hockey though.
Most guys can't get thru a 17 games season with all the contact. That's why the players were against going to 17 games. Too many injuries, unlike baseball, basketball, etc...
