Cannabis Use Precedes the Onset of Psychotic Symptoms in Young People, Study Finds

    Procedure summary:
-Random sample of 1,923 adolescents and young adults aged 14 to 24 years.
-Anyone who reported cannabis use or pre-existing psychotic symptoms at the start of the study was excluded in order to examine the relation between new (incident) cannabis use and psychotic symptoms
-Assessed cannabis use and psychotic symptoms over a period of 10 years at three points

    Reported findings:
-Cannabis use doubled the risk of later incident psychotic symptoms, even after accounting for factors such as age, sex, socioeconomic status, use of other drugs, and other psychiatric diagnoses
-In those with cannabis use at the start of the study, continued use of cannabis over the study period increased the risk of persistent psychotic symptoms
-No evidence for self medication effects as psychotic symptoms did not predict later cannabis use.

these studies make me laugh till i pee! just who in the hell thinks they have the right to tell others what reality really is? the cultures of western civilization are predominately and inherently neurotic already (if you want to use labels)... some may argue that we need cannabis to see alternative possible realities...

I think they are reporting the fact not telling others what reality really is.
If the fact is reality is upto you to decide.

I'm saying: the study is a fact based on a study. They are not trying to tell us what reality is. If the fact is a reality...it is upto you.

correction: i don't think that you understood what i was trying to say... i was saying/asking, who decides that psychosis is necessarily a bad thing? isn't psychosis diagnosed if the "psychotic one" sees and experiences a different reality? who's to say that the "psychotic's" reality isn't real? what i'm saying is, i laugh till i pee bcos it looks like the general consensus of reality is challenged and that is why psychotics are labelled such... fear based delusions of grandeur imho...

Psychosis (from the Greek ψυχή "psyche", for mind/soul, and -ωσις "-osis", for abnormal condition) means abnormal condition of the mind, and is a generic psychiatric term for a mental state often described as involving a "loss of contact with reality".

I think most of us know when a person has lost touch with reality.

I think arithmetic is a good place to start in finding what would be 'reality'.

It's a majority, trust me. I'm not a sheep. Ask everybody here what they think...you will see most of us agree.
