hi friends, want to let you know that newworldrising.org is looking to help activist oriented people start new communities. we started our newworldrising zine in 86 to help develop a national consciousness and communications network. in the 80s we distributed close to 1million copies mainly thru grateful dead tour, rainbow gatherings, political protests, colleges and mail. in 92 we bought an abandonned house in south providence, ri and began our inner city cooperative living and community development project. we are now in a position to help develop cooperative living projects in other areas. we are currently helping to establish projects in new paltz,ny, gainesville,fl, crestone,co, and boone/asheville,nc. these projects are all in their early stages and will need new people as they grow. we are also looking for people ready to start new communities in other areas. do you have a dream and enough initiative to turn it into a reality? if so develop a proposal, drop us a line and lets see what we can do. you can check out our newworldrisingforum on yahoogroups. also check out the wildhumaninitiative group there also. hope to hear from you as we build the new world together. peace nwrfred
Hey now!I remember you from a million years ago, just wanted to say glad to hear you are still treading about on the Earth.
hey now. i was hoping i might meet some old friends here. figured all those dead heads couldn't be dead. after all love is real won't fade away. where are you moving to? we're getting a project going near gainesville. i remember that the palm family was cool. they had some beautiful womyn there with some good projects and vibrations. do you want to develop a community project somewhere? where? let's see how hip these hip forums are. peace nwr(grateful)fred
Do you offer any options for help with financing projects? I ask because i am in planning mode, but funding is going to be my greatest challenge. I want to get an ecovillage going in northern california.
yes we can help with financing communities. this is a major role that we at NWR can play because we will be making some good money with our real estate project in RI and want to invest that money in establishing new projects around the country. each project will be autonomous and have it's own character but we will be networked and connected thru communications, travel, and mutual aid. each project will be expected to be self supporting and able to repay loan provided to purchase land and help with development. so each project will be expected to develop an economic plan on how it will cover it's expenses. cottage industries involving the members seems to make the most sense. a couple of people who i met thru this forum are already looking at land in the ukiah area of CA. so i'd suggest that you contact them to check on their progress which seems to be going well. then let us know how it's going. you can reach them thru email at rabbit801@hotmail.com peace nwrfred
I am also in a sort of planning phase though Ive got as much figured on pad and paper as physically possible, I still have the awful financial burden to deal with, but I figure I may have that squared away by next Spring if things go my way, yet this is assuming somewhat ideal conditions. I also could really use some labor to get the cob cottage up. It's great to hear there's folks out there that use there position of power to such good use. warms my soul, it truely does, thanx for the post. Also im glad to here your getting underway yogi how much you figure a good plot of land is gonna cost you in Cali, and where you looking into any sorts of courses?
Well, I haven't found any land that will work yet. I was looking in the grass valley area and the best deal $$ wise I have come across was 33 acres for 299k with a well already on it. There was very limited flat area on this land though, and no running natural water, which i would like to have in the ecovillage. So i haven't found any real candidates for land, but thats what the pricing is like in the foothills of the sierra nevada in my area. I have no classes scheduled but have looked into some workshops one saturday a month on BioDynamic Gardening at a local school here. Other then that I have gotten a bad ass book on permaculture written by (i think) Bill Mollison, and I have another book all about Ecovillages all over the world and how they work and what they're differences / similarities and focus's are. I'm also simultaneously reading SOLVIVA by anna edey. I would like to impliment a lot of the design of the SOLVIVA project in whatever I get going as it is purely amazing what Anna Edey has done. I highly recommend this book to all of you as the Solviva systems are highly innovative, creative & sustainable for generations. Anna Edey has definately done her research. Other then that I am just practicing my gardening skills at home. I've got compost set up and a winter garden going with some cold frames built to protect a few crops from some of the harsher weather.
figured i'd post a little update. rabbit and willow are moving forward with their community project in the redding area of CA. i met them thru this forum, give thanks. our connection with old wolf and his ithaca area group and land is moving forward. i met him thru this forum. give thanks. w-man one of our rainbow friends is now focusing on developing a project in guatamala. i recently found out that a group of rainbows are working with 4000acres in mexico where they hold gatherings and want to develop an ecovillage. we have developed connection with a group called utopian ecovillage network UEVN. they are developing a project in ecuador that we may connect with. they have also developed a whole bunch of lessons and guidelines that can be applied when developing a community. one of our friends in texas wants to develop a community project in the austin area. he says there is a nice lake beach where nude swimming is allowed there. it is called hippy hollow. one of our friends is currently in spain checking out options in that area. our project here in RI is moving along well. so those are a few new developments with us. i give thanks to this forum and whoever set up this website which is awesome. may the force be with you. peace nwrfred ps.i wonder what the difference is between a guest and a member of these forums is and how you become a member.
you can't respond in the politics forum if your a guest hehehe. thats all I know . . . Are you guys in contact with or associated with GEN??
Its great to hear that there's a group out there with such wonderful intentions, Im not doing anything much soon, but I should be starting something up in the Spring of 2006 so it would be awesome if you could keep me updated, sickhobgoblin@hotmail.com , thanks in advance. The main reason we may not have all the funds is mainly community expansion purposes, It may cost a good bit to get the land yeilding as we'd want it to be in good time.
figured i'd let people know that our 1st new community as a result of this forum is now developing. rabbit and willow have found 15 acres near paradise,ca that we are in the process of buying. they are screening people who are interested in getting involved there and we are together making plans to build some basic housing etc to get that community rolling. if you are interested in that project, they have created a basic website that you can check out and contact them thru. the url is http://www.co-operativeeffort.com/. if anyone else is in a position to get another project going in coordination with the nwr network you can contact us thru our forum at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/newworldrisingforum/. looking forward to building a new world together. peace
I think alternative communities should get together and form a sort of alternative infrastructure (if they aren't already.) I remember going on a tour of Sirius community and noting that they had a vegitable oil fill-up station. Imagine a vegitable oil fill-up station in every IC. I posted some other ways people are doing things along those lines on the "protest" forum, Link but I fear that the internet might not always be as free as it is now. Perhaps IC's could try to have alternative info stations and libraries just in case our country keeps going the same direction it is. Perhaps I am over-reacting a bit, but it helps to be prepared.
i agree with forming a community based alternative infrastucture. developing communities, networking them, and developing businesses to provide necessary services is how i see things developing. the biodiesel station is a good idea. we were thinking of doing that at the ny project. how did you like the sirius community? it sounds like willpower plans to start his maine project in spring. what are you doing till then? it's nice to see your dreamy face with your posts.
Thank you nwfred? Your in Rhode Island, that isn't far from me I am going to send an e-mail to Sirius to see how much intentional communities are networking already. (edit: http://www.massretreats.com/ - I forget the power of google) I think people should just keep putting their own ideas into what is already being done, stirring the pot of ideas until we create a vortex to drag everyone else in. I think after the last election there is a fire under peoples buttocks like never before that should not be underestimated.
as mao said, the future is bright but the road is torturous. as the beatles said, it's a long and winding road. as the grateful dead said, what a long strange trip. anyone who expects a super highway to the new world has the wrong map. but again as the dead said, we will survive. we are charting the course in a major transformation of humyn society. nobody promised us a rose garden. the old world is rapidly aging but they still control almost all the money. i'd say we're doing pretty well with the peanuts we have to work with. because again as mao said, the people and the people alone are the makers of world history. it just sometimes takes a little longer than we would wish. keep in mind that the earth has existed for billions of years and spirit is eternal. peace
