Months have passed since the transition to the new forum. So, now that we've had time to adjust... How do you feel about the new forum compared to the old?
I don't care for it, and don't really notice things have changed much. If anything the quality of discussion seems to have dwindled even further since the upgrade (which could just be a coincidence and not directly related to the upgrade), and overall there doesn't seem to be much activity these days aside from the sex/freak forums. It's been this way for the past several years but gradually has been getting worse. I think things really took a dive after the purge from a few years back, when we lost some of the better contributors to this site. I keep telling myself I'm going to stop even coming here, but boredom ends up getting the best of me, or I click on the website without even thinking because it's what I've done for so long that it's become almost second nature.
Once you get used to it, it's fine. I've been on several different forums and that all have a learning curve and their own quirks. New vs Old is just like joining a different forum but you already know everybody
Like PR said... I've been coming here for so many years (under various aliases), that it seems like home With the new forum, it's much less like home. The quality of new, thoughtful members declines and senior members quit or get banned. Yet I'm still here.
I'm concerned about the survival of the forums. There's a feed-back loop between number of posts, number of members online, and number of new members. I'm not sure what difference there has been in post count and members online, but it seems like they have dropped.
I'm used to it now. I like some things and I don't like some things. People come and go all the time. There'll be others hopefully.
All forums are going through this, more people go to some other form of social networking these days like Faceplant... I mean Farcebook... errr. Whatever.
I miss the old forum. But I guess that's what old people are supposed to do, dwell in the past. This site is more purple and I have an avatar that I had to pay for before, so I should be happy.
The Old Forum Had Character Dating Back To 1996, The New Forum Is Just Like Any Other On The Internet..... Cheers Glen.
This. Except I do like notifications and the new tools, some of it seems better. And I want my fucking rep back. And the smilies.
You can no longer edit the title of your thread.I think editing should be allowed for up to two days as it used to be.
I cant even edit the titles of your threads.. usually once a week I get a request to fix a title, WE CANT! ! yeah some mod tools work fantastic "sarcasm"..
it seems like there is MUCH less discussion ever since the switch-over, especially in the psychedelic forums which i frequent most often. the biggest bummer about the switch-over is that i lost my journal entries, one chronicling all of my miprocin trips, and another describing 5 years of summer camping trips anyone know if there is any hope of my journal entries coming back? also, i can't find many of my old posts. sometimes, an old thread just starts in the middle - post #1 is obviously a reply to the original thread, which is now missing.
I liked the format of the old forum better. This one is okay, but it just doesn't have the same feel to it. I'm kind of in the same boat as PR - I don't really know why I keep coming back... probably habit.
