    Hi there folks,

I have recently moved to Vancouver and would like to meet some cool people.
So far I like the city but have not made any friends and I have not even sampled the famous "BC Bud". I would really love to try some as I hear it's supposed to be the best. So far all I have seen here are junkies and crackheads. If there are any cool folks here on the forum in the Vancouver area and would like to make friends and possibly help an old hippy out please send me a message. I'd love to hear from you! :D

    Cheers!

Hello! where did you move from?

I JUST moved away from Vancouver, it nearly broke my heart.
I will gladly share some tips!

If you take the skytrain to the broadway or commercial stop, take a stroll down commercial drive (its where youll find fair trade, organic lovers, its a beautiful melting pot or so many cultures and hippies)

Go to the amsterdam cafe (its In gastown on west hastings) its a block from pub 340 and the cambie. Ask around, its easily to get to through public transit and any local will know where it is, or atleast the cambie.
If you ask around, it's extremely easy to find weed in vancouver, if you're still having trouble or are too shy I could give you a number for public delivery, or a doorbell to ring.
Vancouver is a world of its own and not so sneaky about it :)

If you go in there, and ask around someone will surely help you out.
As for making new friends, I strongly suggest you go the cambie during the weekend.
It's attached to an international hostel, and has a very diverse crowd, people from all over the world, and the friendliest of locals! There is always a long lineup on weekends, but no cover charge! go early!

There is a place called bons off broadway, it has the best breakfast for 3.99 :)

"So far all I have seen here are junkies and crackheads. " Clearly youve discovered east hastings. Sadly more than half of the homeless in vancouver are mentally ill. so when you think someone is a crackhead they could just be a paranoid skitz. so please be kind, black holes take good people too.

BEST OF LUCK! I HOPE YOU COME TO LOVE VANCOUVER

Thanks for the kind words and helpful tips. I have seen The Amsterdam Cafe and I have already had a beer at The Cambie. I am just starting to explore the city and so far I am enjoying it. I am especially interested in the $3.99 breakfast . ;)

Yes...I know east Hastings as I live on it near Main St. I am very aware that many of the homeless have mental health issues. I also see a lot of people doing serious harm to themselves with hard drugs and this is a real and ongoing problem in the neighborhood. Unfortunately this also brings petty crime and violence. It's a real shame.

Like I said, so far..I am loving the city and hope I can stay! :D

ouch, not a happy plave, hastings and main :( i get rather depressed every time i go into the city. in some ways i love it there...theres just SO MUCH that i dont have here in my little town. but the homelesness...the apathy...it doesnt take long for it to really get to me. anyway, spend time on commercial. get some bread and cheese from santa barbara (best deli ever) or have a samosa at sweet cherubim. commercial is totaly where its at.
if you get tired of the city, hop on a ferry and check out the sunshine coast (roberts creek is hippie central) or vancouver island.
    good luck :)

Vancouver is not what it once was. But nonetheless it's still a great place. I suggest you head out to Jericho Beach and do some sailing. If there's not wind go to Wreck Beach and get an all over suntan.

I just took a road trip to Vancouver in June, and I immediately fell in love with the city! There was just so much to do and see! I cannot wait to go back someday
