hey im new at this and i want to grow. i have a female seed that i got from a friend but all i did is just put it in a container of soil (miracel grow) and i added some water to it. as of right now its under my lamp. all i want to know is if i am doing it correctly. the seed is a reggies seed. and if i am doing it correctly, how long would it take to grow and how much would grow if its only one female seed. thank you.
i have light in my room that i can move around and the light is right above it. its a white light probley about 25 or 50 watts. i do have a blacklight... would that work at all or better?
Depending on the type of light, they have different color spectrums that are useless to growing. You need either compact fluorescent, cool fluorescent tubes, mh (metal halide), hps(high pressure sodium), basically. Halogens and incandescents are a no no. A cheap way to get going quickly, which will give you results and then you can improve on it, would be compact fluorescents. You can buy a 4 pack of 23watt cool white for under 10bux, then at a hardware store, buy a cheap grounded 3prong extension cord, and 4 light socket bathroom fixture, you see in a lot of bathrooms. Cut the fixture in half, with heavy duty snippers, drill a few holes, use self tapping screws,to piece it together to form a box. Now you have 4 places for 4 cfl bulbs. Cut the extension cord, match green, white, black wires together, plug her in. Under 20 bux, you got 92 watts under one plant, sufficient for vegging. You will need to goto higher watts and different light for flowering. To be honest, in order to get a nice final product, you need to invest lightly and assess is it good idea to pull this off, any other way, would be disappointing. If you are on a tight budget, you can upgrade as you go and learn. Believe it or not, I started with a Kitchen table, cardboard sides and 2 shop lights after I learned that the one bulb i had over a scraggly seedling wasnt going to cut it. As I learned more and could afford more because i wasnt buying bud, i upgraded. I am still upgrading and learning. Keep asking questions and using the search function. Xtbudda...
No blacklights. Compact floro would be good in this early stage but how much you get depends on many things. The size of the plant would be the most important factor and this includes the root system. The longer grown before flowering the more you would get. The larger the pot rooted the more you get. The more good lighting and feed you have in grow and flower makes all the difference. You could get from 0 to 500 grams. BOG
hey guys great to see so many people comin together to help each other out. I'm also new to this. Movin into my own place and reckon its about time i started growing my own. sick of paying €100 ($130) for 3-4 crappy grams. I've noticed alot of posts saying compact floros will do for vegging but better lights needed for flowering. I've got a bit of money put by and was wondering, will a decent lighting set up, say 200-300hps only work in the flowering stage or can you use these for the whole way? not planning on growing a farm, just 3 or so plants at any one time. dont wanna burn the babies out but figured i may as well put some money in now and get the rewards later. any advise on equipment i should get to start up is greatly appreciated. Cheers
You could buy a 600 watt hps light and also have a conversion bulb to use in it during the veg time. This makes a flowering light into a metal halide type grow light then you change the bulb. Just a 400 hps could be served in veg by a couple small compact floros and yes you can veg under hps light but it is the wrong spectrum for veg so a lot of the watts are just wasted until flowering when you go from the blue light to the red spectrum. BOG Many flower under a combination of hps and mh and you can veg under hps but why?
thanks for the help, i'm new to this so i was hoping to just get the one light and use that for the entire grow. just wasnt sure if a 400hps would be to strong for the veg stage. Plus, i'm not planning on doing anything on a large scale. just 3 maybe 4 plants. and i wasnt sure what kind of light i would need to cover the space required. like i said i'm not too bothered by the cost of growing. its something i've wanted to do for a long time so wasted watts arent much of a concern so long as they dont do the plant any damage.
