Hey everyone iv decided I want to grow dread(as you can see lol). And I have few questions.First off im White but my hair grows curly and turns into a afrow naturaly. Will have any problems growing dreads? At the moment my hair is short I decided I should start from scratch. How long should I let it get befor I start trying to dread it.What shampoos should I use? Thanks for the help everyone Iv always wanted to grow some but Iv never known how to go about it/
u can start dreading today, neglect your hair, put on a wool hat, wash with only water and dont comb your hair with your fingers. see my pics in my album if you dont believe itll work
would a beenie work? and my hair is mabe like a cm or two long atm.Is it still ok like you said.IM just clarifying the lenght of my hair atm. EDIT: sorry if my spelling is off im pretty tired atm.
yes a beenie will work, and right now is a good time to start... if your hair is curling already then it will knot up very easily. the hair goes through process of knotting and moving around which is not like dreadlocks forming in longer hair, it takes more patience. just wear the hat and wash as often as you like and in a few months youll have tiny dreads, they will not be fat dreads, but once they get longer they might knot up with neighboring dreads to make fatties. goodluck redminder:do not use commercial soaps! DO NOT! dr. bronners is the only exception, but even that is a little harsh. many recomend, i too, just washing with water and the occasional baking soda scrub and rinse. scrub that scalp. no shampoo.
Its not curling yet but in a week my curls should come in.But yeah thanks guys for the help getting me started!
bronner's soap is great, I would try that out and see how you like it before going to straight water. I think your best option is to switch off washing with bronner's and water/baking soda. Your hair needs to be clean to knot, so don't be afraid to wash it.
i love dr. bronners. but it works best if it's diluted. squirt some in a cup of water and dump it over your head... don't put it straight on your head. it's best to try a bunch of different things and see what works for you. on shorter hair, water may work better because there's not as much there. baking soda and hotter water also works well. mmg, everyone has their own ways of doing things. that's why this forum is great... a person can post a question here and get a lot of different answers to see what's best for them. if i used straight water on my hair it would look lank, greasy and gross. baking soda and dr. bronners have both worked well for me.
