okay first question.... gauges! how do i increase a gauge? is this just by using a larger sized needle, or do i need to find thicker yarn too? this probably sounds rediculous to you guys but i'm new and i'm crocheting a scarf right now and i had to increase the number of stiches 3 times because i didn't have the right size needle (i'm guessing that was the only reason) and so it's taking me FOREVER to do it. i'm thinking i'd probably be down by now if i had th eright gauge and instead i'm probably about a fourth of the way done... hehe anyway, yeah.. and i might ask more questions in here too if you don't mind...
congrats on starting to crochet. you'll find it very addictive after a while. my hunny just laughs and rolls his eyes because i never leave the house without a ball of yarn and a hook/needles. to increase the guage, you were right. you can use a larger needle (which tends to be the easiest in my opinion ), use a thicker yarn, or both. happy hookin' (he he he. sorry for my warped sense of humor )
aww thanks guys that helps a lot. i had noticed the hook size recommended on the yarn, i didn't realize that was only the minimum, so i'll definitely keep that in mind
thanks you're right too, it's so addicting i was going to take it to school today (okay so i did but i didn' tget a chance to do anything with it)
oh yeah that's awesome i work in a supermarket and don't get any time to do stuf flike that except during my 30 min break, but then i'm usually eating and talking and watching news or something
