fyi drilling glass;..... brass tube and abrasives

One method that I used was the brass tube approach suggested by Paul A. I found a a length of tube to match the hole OD I wanted, notched the tube's end and used a slurry of 220 grit silicon carbide (SiC). I molded a little putty around the hole location to act as a dam to keep the slurring mix in place. I manually fed the tube into the work using gentle pressure and fairly low RPM (120 or so). The workpiece was a fairly thin-walled bell jar (the kind you buy at a craft store).

I was thinking of improving the set-up by adding a counterweight to the drill press quill feed lever arm, but just did it manually. Kind of like watching paint dry
