Dammit, I muffed up the title. :& I want to using birth control, but I don't know how to go about this. I already have a doctor, but she is a family doctor and not my own. Do I go to the Health Clinic that is here in town next to the hospital and ask to make an appointement? My family doctor is farely busy, and hard to get ahold of sometime...so I'm trying to find an alternate route to going through her. Thanks.
Your family doctor should be able to prescribe birth control (if she/he performs a pelvic exam-at least that is how they do it here in the states) with no problem, and since you are 18 everything should be confidential... If it's really tough to get into the doc, a clinic might be easier. Just call around a little bit, and the folks at the clinic/office should be able to help you with whatever you want to know.
I don't know if it is the same in Canada, but here you can go to local clinics or something like Planned Parenthood. Your parents do not have to know, and they do it on a sliding scale- what you pay is based on how much you earn. Good luck!
I don't care if my parents find out or not. This is just something that I'd rather do on my own. I'll check out the phone book today and see what's up. I'm scared about going to the Gyno, I've never been before. I want to get it over ASAP, so I don't spend lots of time thinking about it and working myself up about things. Blah.
Gyno is no big deal...the worst part is the draft you feel while you are up in those stirrups...and thats just because there usually isnt a draft in that general area...
Stirrups are convenient for a lot of HCPs during a pelvic. They are archaic for childbirth, but do work, especially if the patient is nervous during a pelvic. She will involuntarilly clamp down and close her legs. It hurts if you are tense and clamped. It is more comfortable if you are relaxed and aren't tight. A pelvic is a neccesity once you are 18 or are sexually active, which ever comes first. It isn't bad at all. Try breathing deeply and give a little push if the speculum feels funny. Good luck.
