New England votes overwhelming for the Democratic Party in national elections except for New Hampshire and possibly Maine… I always thought it was weird to see to these shades or red in a sea blue and was wondering why those state are politically leaning to right, comparatively speaking

p.s I know New Hampshire went to Kerry but just barely

This topic was on the news alot around here during the election. The answer on why they tend to swing Republican that I heard alot and which I think makes sense is that if anything, they're more Libertarian then anything in those parts.

"they're more Libertarian then anything in those parts."

Strange, you say they are libertarian, but why didn't they vote for the libertarian canidate? Michael Badnarik, oh wait, that's right, because they didn't show jack from his campaign on the mainstream media, and didn't let him in the debates. what bullshit.

Well, if you'd get your head out of your ass for once, maybe their reasoning is the same as most people here and and across the country, that they diddn't want to vote, especially in the last election for someone who it felt like they would just be wasting their vote.

Well, that's your opinion, because I feel that voting for Bush or Kerry would be the real waste, atleast if you vote for someone you really agree with you can have a clear conscience. I also don't appreciate you telling me to pull my head out of my ass because i did not insult you once in my previous post, and would appreciate the same respect be shown to me.

    Peace and Love,
    Dan

And another opinion of mine that i am sure you will disagree with is that if the mainstream media gave as much attention to Ralph Nader, or Michael Badnarik, and actually let them attend the debates which they had a right to do...people wouldn't think they were wasting their vote away because that canidate would be a mainstream canidate and many people would know them and vote for them.

I used to live in NH. The reason they swung blue this last election was the economy hit them bad - real bad. There's not much to do up there, not many jobs to go around as is.

I think the main reason is that New Hampshire and Maine are simply more rural than most of New England. You can drive from Boston to Washington DC without ever leaving the city, but you can drive from Boston to Canada without ever SEEING a city.

Why do you think they had a right to attend the debate when neither of them were attracting even 1% of the vote? Are we just going to let anyone who wants to run for president debate on the same stage as Bush and Kerry? Don't you think that having 500 candidates on the stage, 498 of whom know they aren't going to win, might make it harder for people to determine the candidates' position on various issues?

Yes, but my belief is, the reason they are only getting 1% of the vote is because they are getting no exposure to the average american. Yes, having everybody who wants to run for president on the debates would be absurd, but michael badnarik had won the libertarian canidacy, he was actually nominated by his party, he wasn't just running as an independent. I feel that there needs to be more room for other canidates, the debate between the war in Iraq was so weak "I support our troops and this war' was the overall feeling, there needs to be atleast one guy in the middle saying "NO" to the corporately controlled canidates of the democrat and republican party.

    Peace and Love,
    Dan
