I am moving away and the place only allows fish, I only have a tiny fish bowl with no fancy equipment. I just want 1 fish for it, what type of fish do you suggest I get. (And I don't care for beta fish, I have had to many)
it would prolly eat the fishbowl.... lol. they are very destructive.. I like Seahorses but saltwater tanks are hard to maintain. least they are for me..
yeah I am going to start a fresh water one, just for easy maintenance and also because I haven't had a fish in years.
Personally I wouldn't keep just one fish in a bowl Obviously naturally most fish live in shoals, so at least one friend for the little guy would be a good idea Bowls will get smelly quickly and need a lot of cleaning. I'd advise getting a small tank with a pump to filter the water and make it a fresher enivronment-it'll mean less cleaning and easier conditions for the fish. Fish in bowls often just die from the poor water quality or get ill unless you clean all the time, which is hassle for you and stress for them You might want to consider tropical too, they can actually be easier to maintain than freshwater and you get more choice with your fish If you really want to use the bowl though, I'd advise small goldfish, not the sort that would naturally grow quite long (I'm not too knowledgable about varieties to be honest, ask at an aquarium shop maybe)
^yeaps. I used to keep beta fish in the little glass bowls, Eventually the bowl ruined my woodwork cause they was still a little wet when I put them back.. Then there is no room for them to move around. no heater which is really important if you want them to live when its cold.. and if you get tied up, lol.. or busy and forget to change the water, it will get all murky..
fish bowls are a pain in the ass and its hard to keep fish alive in them. bettas can live in them and goldfish too, but dont necessarily expect them to live long. i had a black moor goldfish (very cool looking) in a bowl and it lived for awhile.
I've just thought, you could try a small group of minnows. They should be fine aslong as it's not too small in there-they are quite active. You can get little filters too, or at least enough to make a stream of bubbles to help keep the water moving
yeah the little fish bowl is just to get me started and get used to taking care of a fish while going to school, i will eventually upgrade to a much nicer tank.
my fish (beta) came with a tiny bowl. i got it in October '09 and ive since upgraded to a much bigger bowl (its probably too big for my fish). cleaning it isnt much of a hassle and im surprised mine has lived this long. i bought it at school and kept in my dorm room - i now keep it at home because my dorm room got way too cold and the water was freezing. my new dorm has newer heating so hopefully i can keep it at school with me. my fish is my little buddy
my bowl isnt as small as the beta bowls. its the size of a watermelon. im excited to get a new fishy friend
Just thought I'd let you know we've just bought one of these (probably just bigger than a watermelon) and we have two apple snails in it Not quite fish as I'd be happier if they had proper filters and all that, but the snails are seriously pretty cool to look at, more fun than you'd think! Maybe we'll add a couple of minnows. We'll see how it goes
I'd have to go with Orison and say if you wanna fish get a beta. or ya know just get a bigger bowl...
bettas are the only thing that can survive in a bowl... and not happily. I work in a pet store where we're all well trained and fish is pretty much our main source of business... if you want something other than a beta then go to the pet store and get AT LEAST a 2 gallon little tank with a small FILTER not just an airpump they don't CLEAN the wather, just make it move. and if you get a 2 gallon then the most you can put in it is ONE fan tail goldfish, they're cute and come in different colors.... If you want a nicer fish than that then you're looking at a bigger tank and more than likely, a heater. and do a little research and learn about the nitrogen cycle because if you don't know anything about ammonia nitrates and nitrites you don't know how to take care of fish and will end up frustrating yourself. Fish keeping is a HOBBY and unless it's done right fish are horrible pets because you need to put in EFFORT to keep them alive, not just feed them. If that doesn't sound good to you... maybe you should ask your landlord if you can have a small caged animal. such as a Hamster (ok pets once you train them not to be hand shy), Gerbil (never bite, but skittish and not easy to handle), Rat (awesome intelligent pets who are just as smart and easy to live with and love as a cat or dog), Guinea pig (supercute make cute sounds but are skittish and scared, you have to get them used to you... and clean up after them a lot because if you don't they smell), or a dwarf rabbit (make sure you get a real dwarf, research them to make sure of what you're looking for because any other breed of rabbit gets quite large(my angoras are bigger than my dogs) bunnys are very cuddle-able and easy to take care of imho) hope this helps.
I ended up getting a 12 gallon tank, with filter, and heat light. I now have 2 aquatic dwarf frogs <3 and some fish,
