Hey everyone. :) I'm new to the mental health board, although I've been lurking on Hip Forums for years. My name is Chelsea, and I'm a nineteen year old student, and I work part time at a music store/studio.

I've had anxiety issues since high school (I'm a sophomore in college now), and recently they've come back hardcore. I had basically a breakdown the week of Halloween this year, when I was up at my old college (New Paltz). I wound up finishing the semester at home, and transferred to a local college on Long Island.

I started off with 10mg of Lexapro, which stopped working, and bumped it up to 20mg. That helped the anxiety, but it made me incredibly depressed. The depression has lessened, but I am still anxious and depressed more days than not, for more of the day than not. My psychiatrist has been trying new medications with me, and they're just making things worse (first was 25mg Pristiq in addition to the Lexapro, which resulted in increased anxiety and sleeplessness, I lasted a week on it; second was Seroquel, which made me feel drugged/drunk all day, gave me spasms, and made me incredibly depressed... I took that last night, and I'm still feeling the effects).

Basically, I'm wondering if anyone else is having any similar issues, or can offer any advice? My family doesn't "get it," and my boyfriend is beginning ot get fed up with things, and knowing that others are going through or have gone through the same things would mean a lot.

    Peace,
    Chelsea

Unfortunately when it comes to anxiety medication, you have to find the one that works for you, and it may take several attempts to find it. Don't give up trying to find something to help you cope with anxiety. Call your doctor and discuss your concerns with him/her. They don't know if something isn't working for you unless you tell them, so make sure to let them know. I wish I could offer more concrete advice, but only you and your doctor know your specifics, and you really should work through this together with their help.

    Good Luck!
