Any tips on getting these babies out?
My dreads are about a year old and I love them to death, but in order to get a "real" job I must get rid of them. They're a little past shoulder length, I figure I'm going to have to cut a good bit of my hair but I'd like to save as much as possible. I really don't wanna do this but my family really needs the money, and I know it'll be worth it to put food on the table... as much as I feel like a sell out right now...

Bucket loads of conditioner and a metal comb i think is the best way.. They'll be a lot looser at the roots so if you cut good few inches off.. you should be able to save most of the length.. Not sure what kinda condition the hair will be in though?

Somebody here posted a topic on how they took their dreads out after 3 years and their hair was up to their knees. You can most likely comb them out by using lots and lots of conditioner. I combed mine out last week and they were 4 months old, it took about 3 hours to do so. That person who combed out the 3 year old dreads said it took a couple of days. so....have fun.

I just took my 8 month dreads out, I sharpened the end of a crochet hook and pulled them apart one hair at a time, it took a week but I saved most of my hair.

P.S....you don't have to get rid of them to get a real job. Just pull them back neatly and let your great personality shine through. Get out there and try before you get rid of your dreads, you might be surprised at how few people care about hair.

The interviews I've been on, all have asked me about getting rid of them. Which is pretty shitty if you ask me, but I'm getting use to the idea and I'm alway excited to try something new.

I starte yesterday evening with a metal comb and conditioner, got all of 2 out in about 2 hours. Hah...

geez thats bullshit I've seen cops with dreads (nicest cop i ever met) and colledge proffessors
sell yourself & tell them this is who you are, you work hard but you refuse to change for spiritual reasons
your convictions should prove your dedication not only to your hair but to your job as well..
