I want to quit smoking. I'm gonna try to do it cold turkey, but all the things i like doing when i'm busy are the times i enjoy smoking. Can someone give me some advice of quiting? I'm doing it for health reasons i guess.
Hey man. I am in the same boat that you are with the cold turkey thing. I am always chewing on toothpicks or gum. It has only been 4 days, but I think this time might be the true quit. Another thing that helps is, when you feel like having a cig, take deep breaths and count back from 10. Once I reach 10, I usually do not feel like smoking anymore and pop some hard candies. Good luck in your quest.
You can't be allergic to "anti-depressants", that is too large of a spectrum of drugs to be allergic too. . . That is besides the point, though. Your success rate is much higher if you use something to help you quit. One non-medical thing that helped me was very stong peppermint candy. . . it gives you a sensation somewhat like smoking, and seemed to help me.
Hey PhotoGra1...are you off the Wellbutrin after a few weeks, or do they keep you on it? I would consider that if its temporary, but i do not like the idea of being on soma permanently.
You should take it for 1 week before you quit smoking, and then take it for 3 months after, for the best results. You could take it for less, but 12 weeks is not to long to be on it. Many people take it for years.
This sounds like the route that I am taking. Its hard to be completely disgusted when its all around me though. I mean, I have to tolerate it in todays society.
You could try the patch. If it doesnt work, you'll be out about 35 bucks but paying 35 bucks for them sort of helps with the motivation....atleast for me since I don't have $35 just to throw away.....those patches were going to work, dammit! But they did work pretty well, and I was able to quit smoking. I didn't crave the cigs anymore and if I found myself thinking about having one I just got my mind onto something else....if the craving isn't there then that makes quitting alot easier. After about 9 months of no cigs I went ahead and bought a pack just to have "one" since I was thinking about it so much and then I couldn't even finish it, it was so gross. Good luck!
The most important thing to quitting anything is to replace behavior with another. Like...everytime you want a cigarette, substitute that with sucking on hard candies...or snap a rubberband on your wrist...something like that. That goes for any kind of addiction. Also, if you have a tendency to smoke only at certain times, avoid putting yourself in those situations...or just simply substitute the behavior with something else. It's actually quite simple... As cheesy as this is...it actually works, I printed this out for an ex boyfriend and he ended up quitting smoking after following these steps... http://www.drphil.com/advice/advice.jhtml?contentId=3076_sevensteps.xml§ion=Health&subsection=Mind+and+Body Good luck!
smoke lots for a day or get someone else to. put out all your cigarettes or rollies in a glass of water. ash into the glass of water too. then after a day or two when the water is full of fag ends and ash and shit, drink it. all. you'll probably puke but it'll put you off smoking for a long, long time...
I know that you can go to the doctor and get these pills to help you quit. I have seen a couple of people be successful with this. It's been a while since I researched it, but I think it goes something like this... You take the pills for 2 weeks just smoking like normal and then after that time the smell just makes you want to gag...
see some of my previous posts! smoking seems to be one of those things that about 100 million people want to give up!
Do it cold turkey and notice your inner process as you'll also personally develop considerably. See it as an initiation like walking on hot coals. After 5 days your cravings will diminish. I agree if you condition positively, like affirmations every thought you take and deep breathe you'll find it easier. Even better, find a reputable insured and verifiably educated hypnotherapist for a one session expert version of that. It usually costs, yes, but far less money than substitutes and far less to detox from than if you also compensate pharmacuetically. I've failed with substitutes and succeeded with cold turkey and assistance. We all know there are periods of angst in nicoteine detox and having support around to support you and simply blarb off to is crucial. Light meditation helps too. See the point where you feel loss (of nicotine) in your body and visualise light descending in through the top of your head to the point of loss until you feel peace there instead of anxiety, breathe in and invite the air and life into the same part of you that requires to hurt itself through sucking tar etc into you to damage you. Take vit C & E and eat a balanced diet and drink plenty of water. You shouldn't need to compensate with over eating. Good luck! Tamsyn
my buddy told me about some patchs you put on your skin. you can buy them at a pharmacy .they have nicotine that goes into the blood stream and it takes away the craving for a few days till you can get a grip. i don't know, but i ought to try it.
Hey, I got an idea. If you have a bowl or pipe, this will really work for you. Go out, research special herbs and make your own concoction, sort of like kinicknick, to give you a starting point. Then, open your heart and bless the herbs you have used for their life force and then exchange blessings with the Mother Earth as well, thanking her for the air you breathe, the land which feeds you and the water which nurishes. Try it. Blessings Francine
