Been trying to get 100% pure Aloe Vera but I cannot get it anywhere. I've tried health food shops (They claim to be 100% until I read the ingredients), I can't get it online because they don't list the ingredients and don't want to risk paying £8.89 for some that isn't even Aloe.

I can't get the plant either because well, I'm not exactly fond of the idea of cutting up a living thing.

    Can anybody direct me?

    Cheers x

FFS just get a plant, you'll probably treat it better than the intensive aloe farmers who don't even let them wonder about outside.

I've used this line of products with some degree of success:

    http://www.lilyofthedesert.com/83016.html

Notice the ingredients. (And also notice that they add citric acid as a stabilizer, could alter hair color) Good luck!

Whoa, hold up. I'm sorry, but I need to address this. What you believe is your business, but wow. Does this believe mean you can't have a garden that you eat from? Do you feel bad walking on grass?
Not only that, but you can't cut it up, but you are perfectly fine with someone else doing it? Isn't that a little hypocritical?
I'm trying to be respectful, but um... this is a little confusing.

I just don't like using knives on Living things. Which I ASSUMED would have to be used.

Okay, first off, pypes was talking to me. It was in reference to my sig pic, which comes from a nerdy webcomic called "xkcd". Calm down. No one called you a name.
All I wanted to know was, how do you justify buying this stuff if you don't agree with damaging it for your own use? Something's not adding up with your ethic.
Isn't this the main argument that vegans use against meat-eaters? That if we can't deal with how the meat is processed we shouldn't eat it?
I just don't understand, so I asked. You put it out there when you basically said you wanted aloe, but didn't want to hurt a plant to get it... I don't think my first post was unreasonable at all.

    Thanks
So drinking juice will condition the dreadlocks? Hmmm They sell 100% aloe juice. I just thought that because it was a drink it wasn't for hair.

I suppose it could be hypocritical Firefly, etc but while the roots are in the ground I couldn't use a knife on it. Which why I'm posting because I assumed the only way to get the gel would be to slice the leaf get the gel and leave it growing. Unless I had knifes attached to my soles, I wouldn't feel guilty about walking on grass.

You should be able to buy big stalks of pre-cut aloe plants at the grocery store in the produce dept.

Ah good call girl. The ways of olde called for the use of a silver or gold blade upon the harvest of any herb for food or medicine. This would be done only upon consultation with plant, man and cosmos, according to moon phase plant type, time of year etc and after a few sacred words would be spoken. This is me being mortal and to a degree a product of the system(no matter how much I dislike that fact) attempting to summarise an olde lore of course. It was done with ritual, knowledge, intent and real meaning.
Being lucky enough to live in a country where I am freely able to grow and catch my own food.I apply my meagre knowledge and true pre-existing archetypes in such a way that I honestly feel is balanced and healthy(heal thy) not only for my family and friends who directly benefit from my toils, but most importantly for the Earth.Once respect is given respect is due.

Having lived in the UK and Europe for 6 years,I do understand the dillemas and quandries a true empath finds when faced which the prospect of feeding oneself ethically. It is virtually impossible without costing a bomb.
What I found useful was locally grown produce from farmers markets and the likes. You would be surprised how many of them really love the Earth and have fantastic produce at a realistic price.
This way I found I cut down food miles and was able to eat seasonally.Which as we all know is not just ethical but far healthier.
There are also many Organic Co-ops that will deliver to your door at a reasonable rate.
If you can grow your own then picking with your hands or a ceramic knife may make you feel easier about Vegicide(haha ;)).
As for Aloe it will grow most places as long as it is brought inside in snowy and frosty places during the winter.
    I could send a cutting..
    Hope it helps

When you posted about that nerd thing. I thought you were saying that because I didn't want to use a knife on a living thing you were making fun. Realised you weren't and I apologise. :) No hard feelings. Like I say, I'm new to the whole forum thing and sometimes think people are talking to me when they aren't

My mum had an Aloe Plant when I was little and one day in pure anger at her, I pierced one of the leaves of the plant. All this juice seeped out and I thought I'd made it cry (I was maybe 9 at the time). I felt so so bad and turned the pant so no one would ever see it. The hole that I pierced didn't heal like I thought it would. It scarred and then the scar turned grey. I can't remember if she ever found out.. But I had nightmares over it for a while. hehehe that's why I'm not fond of using knives. Hell I feel bad if I see a tree that someone has carved names into it.

haha Vegicide. I don't think I'd have any problems picking stuff from the earth. Just using a knife while it's IN the earth. Unsettles me. A cutting would be very kind of you to send btw.

DjNatidread, maybe you should read a little about alchemy...my bf is into it and in practice you have to go about the moon cycles and know which plants are under certain astrological signs. you have to meditate upon your intentions for the plant, and basically everything you were saying. maybe it could further your intentions and practice.

hellodreadhead, it could maybe benefit you as well. i have a few aloe plants, but i still buy the natural aloe gel for my hair because my plants have been going through trouble lately...and my cats cause them enough pain as it is. (not in eating them, just running wildly past them)

Thanks for the advice,I have been practising for 15 years now.I didnt want to go into all the detail as you well know it is so detailed and in depth I would be here for eons trying to explain it.And besides I believe if you dont have the bloodlines you will never truly get it as you dont have the archetypal instincts to follow through and tap into.Would love to touch base with your husband to see how far along he is.Thanks for the advice.
