When I was 14 I had my navel pierced but it would never settle down & heal properly. I cleaned it out as was told, sea salt saline soaks twice a day. I kept taking it out & having it re-pierced, I was young & naive & never went back to the piercer to find out why it wouldn’t heal. I know I was young & really really stupid, I never really mentioned it to the piercer that it wouldn’t heal, I had it pierced with surgical steel every time. All in all I had it done about 6 times. Then I met my partner when I was 17 & his best mate is a professional tattooist & piercer (& winter DJ) so he took me to his shop to get it redone & I told him of the problems I’d had before. He said it sounded like I was allergic to nickel which is in surgical steel & he pierced me with titanium. I managed to get the piercing to heal rather quickly & was very pleased. He was really good & I went to him for all my other piercings & tattoos I have. Last year he moved to America to DJ professionally & don’t get to see him much any more, we speak on the phone every now & again. Anyway, November 25th 2006 I had to go for a Laparoscopy (an operation where they put a camera down your belly button) & I had to take my bar out & the nurse was meant to put it back in but they lost it & the hole closed. I really miss my navel piercing, I’ve just had my 22nd birthday & would love to have it done again with my birthday money but the thing is I don’t know how long I should wait before having it re-pierced. Also, you can still see the entrance & exit holes, its like the inside has closed, I tried to push a bar back through when I’d got home after the op but didn’t want to force it through if it was properly closed. Can anyone advise me whether I can go & get it re-done soon or whether I can have it re-done at all. I don’t want to get my hopes up getting excited looking for a good piercer only to be told I have to wait another 3-6 months or I cant have it done. Cheers, Torz x
I don't know why you'd have to wait.... Go ask a piercer and see what s/he has to say about it. They'll know more about it.
it all depends on the amount of scar tissue. if it is minimal, i say you can definitely get it redone. with titanium of course. i know england is pretty big, but you wouldnt happen to know of a place called metal fatigue would you? theyre pretty good. i met the piercer while she was in the states a few times. ask around and find a shop with a really good reputation, and ask them if they think you can get it redone. they will look at your navel, and tell you if your scarring is minimal enough.
