I would definently have to say that my worst habit is cussing. It can almost get out of hand. I cuss like a sailor anywhere: church, school, movies, home, grandparent's house, etc. And sometimes, I will just whip a curse word out there without realizing it. Some people I hang around find it offensive, so they tell me to use substitution words such as: fudge, dang it, gosh darn, poop, etc.

Nehoo, I find this to be pointless. All these substitution words are just synonyms for the real curse word. Why not just say what you mean and be done with it? Besides, even if people do find it offensive, how can they not find the synonym equally offensive? After all, it means the same thing. I just don't understand it really.

Futhermore, if we all started using these substituion words for the real curse words, wouldn't that therefore make the substition words curse words?

Why do people find certain words to be offensive? Who first deemed the 4 letters f-u-c-k to be derogatory when put together? Why does it offend so many people when used? Its just some consanants and vowels put together in a certain order. Why does nobody find the words cat, car or house offensive? I've pondered the question many times over, and still can not come up with an answer. Next time someone tells you not to "curse" becuase it's bad, tell them exactly whats up there ^. Who makes it bad really?

I'm not talking about just the word fuck, I am referring to all "derogatory" and "inapropriate" words.

It's not the word itself. It is the meaning behind it. What I don't understand is why people find the synomynms for these words unoffensive, but the actual derogatory word itself offensive. It means the same thing, why is one worse than the other? You are still using it in the same offensive manner, shouldn't this be deemed "unproper" as well?

I don't like the concepts behind cursing so much, so I try to limit it ... when I'm in a good mood, I'll stay away from it.

Even I curse though, sometimes quite a bit. I think it's best just to say what you mean, and I think that cursing can, at times, bring out the severity of something, or add more emotion to it. Though it is inappropriate in society, that's because we're jading all of our kids. =\

I curse a lot. I try not to but it just kinda comes out. It's not in every sentance though. I hate people that swear that much. I can't even listen to them talk.

I should try and practice a little more self control.

Mine isn't in every sentence, that could get annoying. It is in my everday vocabulary though.

I think it is a very .... accurate, and precise .... way of describing your emotions at any given point in time. =P To convey strong emotion, one must use strong, impressioning words; sometimes, these are the ones that are deemed inappropriate because they are so powerful.

Thanks, but I must admit, that's not my quote. =P I don't remember whose it is anymore, but I didn't come up with it, so don't give me credit, heh.

I try to learn as much as I can from the simple little quotes; they really have a lot of wisdom in them. =)

AHA~! So that's how you do it ;þ. Even so, it's equally impressive that you know a vast majority of quotes.

why don't you just learn swears in another language... and if you use them enough they become second nature. Like.... "putung ina mo" is roughly equivilant to "motherf*cker". You can say it all you want in public or around people with sensitive ears, and no one would be the wiser... unless they are fluent in your curse language.

This isn't the point. If I want to cuss, then i'm going to cuss in any language I damn well please, regardless of who is around me and what their ideals on cussing are. The point is this:
Why must people find curse words offensive but not the synonyms for them? They mean the same thing..Why is one worse than the other?

I dont get why people get so offended by curse words. If you use them in a certain way they might become offensive, but not if your like what the fuck is this? or who fucking took my cookie? thats a bitch. Yea, theyre just words......

I have a great question! Why are they called "curse" words?

You're not exatcly cursing them in the strictest sense of the word. The dictionary defines curse as "An appeal or prayer for evil or misfortune to befall someone or something."

So if you said shithead and you meant it as a "curse word" wouldn't that mean you're appealing to some greater force to come down and make them a shithead?

I highly doubt many people think that when insulting someone. You're calling someone a shithead because they are a shithead.

i think the people that find curse words offensive apreciate that you're puting some effort in to limit it, although there is no real difference between 'shit' and 'poop' i think they just appreciate the effort!

"Why are they called "curse" words?"
good questioin best answer i can think of when i think back to older times where the most common swearing (or cursing ;) ) was damn, and to damn something is to curse it!

i find swearing offensive depending on the context, like if somone stubbed their toe and said "fuck that hurt" i wouldn't find it offensive but if someone said "i hope you rot in hell you fucking faggot bitch!" i would find it offensive. although it is important to note people can be equally offensive with out the use of "cuss" words, it's all about the context!

kids at my school say "swear to bob" cause they dont wanna "swear to god" ?!?!?!?!
just dont say it dumbasses. i try not to curse when its not needed, which is always really, so i try to censor some of them when typing (dxmn, fxck, shxt) although i dont do it often. curse words are very much a part of modern dialect and although it may not be proper it is the way we speak.

sometimes i curse like a damn pirate, this is because i am soo hard core.

ok, im not hard core at all, but i do curse a good bit, mostly fuck and shit, it comes natural for some reason, but i am trying to cut down because when i hear other people curse as much as i do at times, i dont get offended, but i think it sounds kinda trashy... but man if someone pulls out and almost sideswipes my car, saying "what the flip?" most definately doesnt make me get the adrenaline out like "what the fuck you fucking fucker.".. but who am i kidding, if someone almost sideswipes me i dont care, i am just thankful they didnt and move on with my life.. but you get what i mean. : )
