I've been a naturist for a long time and, yet, I've never run into another one in the great outdoors. I'm not counting skinny-dipping at secluded hot springs, or established nude locations alongside lakes and rivers. I mean when you're off on your own hiking, camping, or just touring.

Once, I was intercepted by a clothed guy who had seen me hiking nude on a low desert ridgeline near his remote camp and had a lot of basic questions for me. We ended up nude camping and hiking together, which was an interesting and enjoyable change from my usual solitary experiences. But I count this as only a partial exception.

I know there are others based on articles in N magazine, and I even exchanged emails with one, but I've never run into one in the countryside.

Anyone here with a different experience(s)?

Someone asked a very similar question on another site which I responded to. I have walked and hiked a fair bit over various areas of England and Scotland and have never met anyone else nude except for those I was with or arranged to meet. But I spent several years living in Germany and Switzerland where nude hiking was much more popular and would often meet other nudist hikers as some of the trails were very popular. Switzerland was the best but I believe nude hiking is an offence now. Germany still has a couple of official trails but I've met other nudist hikers on other trails too. Germans are so much more tolerant of nudity. I don't often go camping in the UK but I have met other nudists camping and in France too on non-nudist campsites. I find nudist campers are often into swinging too.

This has been my experience as well. I’ve probably nude hiked close to 100 times over the years at this point and have never encountered another nude hiker while nude. Have similarly never encountered a nude hiker while textile hiking. Having said that, my naked encounters with clothed hikers have been either completely positive or neutral. One dude just kind of shook his head at me once and smirked an “OK” and one woman looked away somewhat uncomfortably on a different hike. But other than that, folks tend to be friendlier to me when I’m nude on the trail as opposed to when I’m in regular hiking clothes.

If I ever encounter another nude hiker while nude hiking, I suspect I’ll have a new best friend. LOL.

    Correction, if I may.

You would never find yourself "textile" hiking, nor would I. Textile refers to a frame of mind, or belief system, in which you feel compelled to wear clothes under every circumstance, even at a nude beach, where legality is, at most, a minor issue.

    A good point!

I was referring to “textiles” as a physical state of being rather than an over-riding body negative philosophy.

    I shall consider myself schooled.

I live near a forest perserve that has a big lake. There are hiking trails, but I tend to find a path to the water so i can lay out naked and tan. I was laying out naked when i thought i heard some footsteps and was grabbing some clothes to cover up,, when he said, no need to cover up for me. We talked, he got naked with me and we had a great time together naked by the lake

I like to hike nude in some nearby woods and so far have not run into anyone. I don't know if anyone has seen me or not. I know other people use the trails because of the litter they leave behind. I like to hike and then find a sunny clearing to lay out and work on my tan. Maybe I will run into someone some day.

Someone "ran into me" once. Hiking deeper into a forest preserve, I finally stripped and was hiking nude when a runner zipped past me--and then he was gone. I suppose he had a funny story to tell later about suddenly getting flashed by a pair of flabby buttocks.

I went on a early morning hike a while back in a popular passive park. Naturism is afoul of local ordinances so I remained clothed. The stream I came across was very inviting. So much so I doffed my clothes and waded in. I was up to my chest in the cool water when I saw another hiker standing on the bank. I was in full view, caught, but I just waved and retuned to enjoying the cool water. He nodded back and went on never to be seen again. Could he tell of my condition in the murky water? Well nothing came of it so no harm, no foul. But in all my naturist hiking I have not come across another like soul. Maybe one day.

What a gripping situation! You must have been trembling for days. He could have been a plain-clothes deputy with a deeply-held conviction that "public nudity is THE greatest evil" (like one former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court).

No, it really didn't bother me much. The guy didn't come to the waters edge and put up a fuss or run off to get a LEO. He just nodded and carried on with his hike.
