Forgive me if this has been done before, but after a search I couldn't find it. Did you backcomb, neglect, or both? EDIT: I mean when you started your dreads.
well the 'both' option is kind of deceptive because a lot of people consider it both when they begin to neglect their back combed pre-dreads...so i choose back comb cause thats wht i did but am now neglecting, as i am content with the backcombing taking hold, but i didnt start them by neglect, if that is what you are asking
...this could get confusing  I technically did/do not "neglect" because I separate my dreads and try to make em look as neat as possible, but I also let them form naturally. I suspect it will be difficult for a lot of people to pick just one because I think it's pretty common do use more than one method at the beginning (like backcombing AND twist & rip, for example).
Haha. I have backcombed and left some of mine. I've got some that I've felted. I've got whole chunks that are just loose hair left to it's own device - for now anyways. I love my hair 'cause it's like a big huge experiment on my head.
neglect?? that is a very poor choice in wording.. i hardly think that naturally dreading your hair should be considered neglect.. so i cant reply to the poll...
never owned a comb to backcomb with just stuck a couple beads in here n there & sat around waitin to see what happened
i just backcombed and let em do their thing. all i do is wash, i dont palmroll or crochet or nuthin. as a result, their reeeeealy loopy. but i don't mind
i backcombed and then left them, almost no maintenance. ive begun to let my friends play with them though.
I didn't backcomb. Just let them tangle on their own and then fight them when they got too together. I combed out the bottoms once cause my hair likes to suck the bottoms up into big balled chunks, which was kinda annoying. I pretty much leave it alone now, maybe roll a little now and then or put a bead over a big ball bit to calm it.
same here... when I started my dreads were forming very bottom-heavy. Some still are. I actually trimmed a lot of my hair back because I attributed it to the very long length I began with. Trimming helped a lot in the long run. But I see your dreads are definitely well formed at this point. How long have you been going natural for?
Added a new photo to my gallery for ya's. One is all I could take, I suck at taking pics of myself. lol
oh thanks! I was actually surprised when I looked at the photo and compared with the old, they are starting to get long again and have changed more than I thought.
