and then there's the people who take offense at the moniker "jamband." Personally I think it's all semantics, but seems like we all have to label things. On the bonnaroo 2004 dvd this guy says, "there's funk jambands, bluegrass jambands, rock jambands, psychedelic jambands, electronic jambands etc etc" I don't even know if I'm quoting him right, probably not, but it's true. they're all so different there's really no categorizing. that said, Umphreys McGee, they jam good. I like bluegrass jamband too, take your pick, there's many of them, again all different and maybe not jambands either. I have a problem with genres, it's all just music to me.
its all over the board, every day it changes...but the Grateful Dead and Phish are my all time favorites....they are two bands that have somthing that all these other "jambands" lack....they went out on ledges and limbs, tip-toeing on the edge of insanity and bringing it all back home, for a nice safe landing.....Phish has somthing the Dead don't and The Dead have somthing Phish doesn't......on a road trip all you need is a shit load of Phish and Dead and you will get everything you need out of music......
The dead isnt really a jam band, jam band kind of defines the new wave of jam bands like umphreys mcghee and SCI and Yonder.... I think the dead will always be rock and roll...... but they do jam, so i dont know, they are jamrock and jamroll..... and yes they are the best...
deceased??? i think not. nearly, inert and resting....they will rise from their slumber soon enough...
if you consider the dead a jam band, definitely them. If not, i think the disco biscuits are quite neat. Jam bands don't do it for me as much as they used to.
I regret never being able to see The Grateful Dead but after seeing so much concert footage and hearing countless live performances I can quite easily say that the Grateful Dead is my all time favorite. But I believe Phil and Friends has some of the same magic of the Grateful Dead of old Phish is great but many of their jams can get quite irritating especially with a head full of acid. On many occasions I found myself wishing that I had never entered the same arena as Phish. Widespread Panic is great but its just not the same without Mikey. They are no longer at the same level they once were at many years ago. Cheese is where it's at! Great jams accompanied with great lights that just leave you thinking. Right now it is my opinion that Cheese is the best Jam Band still in business at hopefully they will still be around when I'm 40.
did you hear about mtv or somethin now sponsors and runs 'roo... damn thats gonna suck if what i heard was true... guess i'll never get to a good 'roo show... damn sellouts
gods, how many times do people have to post that Superfly owns and manages the 'roo and they are NOT Clear Channel/MTV/ Big giant of the week? Jez, I hope cheese is around IF they still feel it. I've had my doubts recently.
