I am getting so sick of MySpace. Everyday I get at least 10-15 "friend requests" either from girls who are webcam sluts plugging their sites, people offering "free" iPods, or people plugging some "get rich quick" scam. When I checked my friend request folder a little while ago, there was at least 30 of these spammers in my folder. You would think MySpace would do something to crack down on this, because it is a huge annoyance. I notice this happens most after I update my profile. Does anyone else have this problem?
Same problem here. I actually can't figure out what myspace is for, anyways. I joined because I friend to communicate with a friend of mine whom I lost touch with. What is the point of myspace, I don't get it. And what is the point of dating sites, still don't get it...
Ugh, I hate MySpace. I got one over two years ago before it was a huge deal because I was curious about what it was, and now I'm just beyond sick of it. The only reason I even bother with checking it anymore is because there are a few people on there I like to keep in touch with, and that's just the easiest place to do so with them. People take MySpace too seriously. I get so tired of all of the, "COMMENT MY PIX!" bulletins and whatnot. MySpace is so overrated. I definitely prefer Xanga and Facebook.
I have mine simply to reach out to and network with like-minded people and provide them with pertinent information on various topics. A lot of people have them to contact old friends, but I don't use it for this purpose. I agree with those who are saying they don't like MySpace, and there are numerous reasons I don't like it. One of the reasons is the whole teenage, pop-culture image surrounding it. But really, it's what people make of it. Most people have pages that are filled with mindless fluff, but there are some good ones, too. If anything, it's a good networking tool.
problem? I dunno, I am to busy playing with my crush and whispering sweet nothings in her ear... she just wants ME to understand her profession, come on, its not spam  ! "This is new for me, the whole internet crush thing.. especially on a site like this.. i also know that everything happens for a reason, so I tried to make this message special. i want you to understand how I feel about you. I made you a lil webpage and you can click this link to get there. Webpage I made you" I'll stop there. she really did give her site an honest effort, all the more dupes I suppose.
hey, if you recieve a request from Carmichael Dingleberry, its just me...I don't take this myspace thing to seriously, just a parody of all the self centeredness around the site.
Yeah I have the same problem, and its starting to really piss me off. Another problem with myspace is the people phising and hacking peoples accounts and getting into your account and sending spam comments to everyone on your list about free ipods, penis pills, or anything junk. I remember myspace when it first came out before it got really popular, I had it back then and it was really good but now its just chaos.. I also hate all the kids spamming peoples sites saying ADDDD MEEEEE ADDD MEEEE ADDD MEE!!!!! SPAM MY PICS!! all that bullshit. lol.. i try not to take it serious anymore, its a bunch of crap now..
I don't even check my friend requests half the time because of the spam, and unfortunately I ended up accidentally offending a RL friend who had been waiting for a couple of months for me to friend her before I went through and just denied everyone in the folder. It is a problem. Right now my myspace is pretty stupid. I'd signed up originally because I was bored and a friend had signed up himself. But now as I'm getting more into the altered art and the crafts vending, I'm realizing it is a valuable network tool for indy artists and crafters that shouldn't be ignored. There are not only crafters there but other vendors as well, and it could provide a good resource for tips on festivals and shows. Myspace is also filled with other visual artists (I wish we had our own tab like the musicians did) who show their work their, network with other artists and galleries and trade mail art and ATCs. I've been neglecting this valuable networking tool largely because of all the spammers wanting to know if I'll join their "Hot Neurotic Attention-Whoring Social-phobics With Webcams" group. This is actually something that's really been bothering me, especially since my fellow late-blooming artist friend Zak and I have been discussing actually doing something with our work besides hiding it in our closets. Zak doesn't even use his myspace at all. But to be honest, I've found a lot of galleries, artists and resources there, and I'm afraid to take advantage of the network because of its stigma of being filled with drama-mongering emo teenagers and internet porn predators. I feel like I'm wasting an opportunity. Does anyone here have any experience with Tribe.net?
hmmmm...I don't really get all of that. Do you guys have your profiles set as private? or where you need to know your name or email addy to even send a request? Do you have it set to no in regards to accepting invites from bands? I get no spam at all except from one person and I think their account was messed with...I just deleted them from my friends and let them know. I have mine mostly to stay in touch with my Maryland friends and some of my family. I do like speaking with like minded people and such....I do that here as well.
It never was like that until MySpace got really big. I have the same problem, everyday there end up being like 10 friends request... I was really pissed yesturday, it's gotten to the point where one of them commented on my blog, to have some aresehole leaving messages on my comments about how to get "free" ringtones pisses me off. It would be so bad if dumb ass people would keep their password and stuff from getting out... or at least change it asap.
I set mine as private and have it set on no for band invitations if i like a band enough i will add them myself. Apparently buisnesses and and teachers and stuff are looking ate emplyee/studen myspaces and making decisions based on their personl page. I think that is not right in the least bit. so yeah mine is private, not that i have anything bad on there. Yeah teh spam on that site is ridiculous at this point. But i am still a myspacewhore, i cant deny it.
if i'm on myspace for professional networking with my art and my vending it would be self-defeating to have it set to "private". the whole purpose of networking is to have your work & information visible and accessible. it does create a problem when spammers take advantage of it, but i think that keeping my professional profile shuttered away from anyone who wasn't already familiar with me and my work would be totally self-defeating. you can't hide and network at the same time. and yes, were I to set up a professional profile, I would want people looking at it and making decisions. again, that's what it's for. I'd probably keep my personal and professional profiles separate, though. But it does need to be remembered that myspace is a very public place, so if you're networking it's not smart to be putting up personal information you don't want an employer/buyer/whatever to see.
Yea... the bad thing about having profiiles set to private is when someone needs to see the profile they can't... I've ran into a lot of people that I'm not all that sure if they're someone from high shool or something, and I prefer to see the pictures to try and make sure instead of just bothering some random person.
my whole myspace is a joke, i got it to stalk a band i love it for the music, facebook is even more pointless and shitter if you ask me i got more creepiers on facebook than i do on myspace, i really don't care about people trying to spam and shit, ringtones or ipods or "make a hundred dollars in five minutes" facebook can kiss my ass, myspace owns it hands down..powns even.. i could care less about how many friends i get or whatever, i love the face that you can listen to music on myspace the rest can just eat me
are there artists/crafters networking on facebook? i've never checked it out. again i ask, is anyone here familiar with tribe.net? right now, as i said, my profile is just personal. but i am being made more and more aware of the need to make use of the self-promotional/networking opportunity that is being wasted.
