i went to the junkyard on xmas morning to feed and water the stray cats, brought them some wet food for xmas

it's warmed up to the teens so i think i will find no more dead kitties for a while, there was a frozen one last week:(

only have to do one junkyard now, as the other only had one kitten, and i trapped her the day before xmas eve, wormed her, and made her into house cat #7

so, a good xmas for my wife and i and the as-yet-unnamed kitten, and some treats for the strays too, not too bad

tried to also trap a really old cat that is looking pretty bedraggled, but those old cats just look at the trap, look at me, give me that 'you really think i'm that dumb?' expression, before showing me their backsides and slowly walking away...

Your answer to this problem is to make sure they'll live to breed another day? You'd prefer to prolong their mean existance, pretty much setting yourself up as a god over them? You don't mind wasting whatever time, energy and food scraps you have on feral animals, that could actually turn into a nightmare of a rabies epidemic?

Did you happen to think about that? (And, hey! That might sound sort of snotty, but i promise that i do not mean it that way ~ it's truly a question)

i'm sorry about your little town ~ the same thing is happening, all over this country, as more and more people flood into the cities. (Of the 7 towns i drive through on the way to the ranch from our "big" town, only 1 of them is sort of growing. In that one, folks are buying the old downtown buildings and refurbishing them into gorgeous mansionettes! )

Back to the cat thing ~ i know it's hard, BELIEVE me i know JUST how hard ~ but when we can barely even take care of ourselves, we really can't take on the responsibilities for other lives.

On the up-side, if there is one, have you thought about adopting one or two of the cats, that you might be able to have altered (spayed/neutered), that you could provide a truly good life to?

Wa Bluska, life just isn't fair, and sometimes we can only do as much as we're able, but we need to keep the Big Pic in mind when we decide what we're able to do... So sad... but true.

thanks therese, most people just think i'm keeping the rabies virus alive

[i live in an area where the only good animals are the ones you can eat, or the ones that help you kill the ones you can eat]

the good news is my landlady just found out that we have 7 [inc. 5 stray rescues] in the house, and she officially does not mind

    [sigh of relief]

I think what you did was great!!That's very nice of you!!
Recently I rescued a few stray kittens took em to the Pspca got them fixed, shots checked out and medicated and since they were young and became more social and all I gave 2 of them away and my family decided they wanted the 3rd kitten. Since I moved my mom plans on ( hopefully) trapping all or most of the strays and taking them down and getting them all fixed up then releasing them again.
What you can do is find a program near you that can help you fix up these cats. You can trap the feral cats ,get them fixed and get them tested and their shots and then you can release them. Also maybe you can go to some thrift stores or go threw your closet and find some old clothing or blankets and put them in warm cubby spots where the cats like to lay. What is the weather like where you live? Is it cold all the time?
