Over the years, mental problems become more and more and health tends to become less and less.

Why? It's not that we do more research now, and leave it at the simple fact that now we "know" about these "disorders".... rather, I believe it stems from something else.

Everyday our world becomes more fast paced, on the go, little time to relax, and little time to feel GOOD about relaxing.

I've experienced it, where I do relax, and I feel terrible about doing so because everyone else is out "taking care of business"... I feel like a slacker for not working overtime, and making work my life like most people tend to do in this country.

    But it's quite opposite.

These mental disorders, and physical health problems as well, I believe stem from the constant conditioning to civilization. We rid ourselves of most all of our natural instincts to better our "economy" and our community.

From the time we are young, we are taught not to do this, or that, and don't cry so much, don't tattle, make sure you wash your hands, etc. is that leading to anything good?

    I don't think so.

'Course there is a time and a place where you can't be running around screaming like an ape, nude, and wiping your ass with your own hand.... we lock ourselves up to the point where there is no release for what we are truly made of.

    How stressful can that be.

People tend to laugh at me for feeling this way...for instance, I get a ton of weird looks for making decisions based on my "gut"
Your "gut" is there for a reason, you're supposed to use it. This is how animals in the wild defend themselves, how they sense danger...and we have it to, but we learn to ignore it. We learn to use our "heads" instead.

Your head has enough work to do, taking in all the changing stimuli throughout the day, give it a break.

Moreover, even if we want to utilize our instincts, as I mentioned, we're laughed at. How incredibly uncivilized, how incredibly primal and barbaric you must be if god forbid you act like.... dare I say it... a living creature.

More and more often we are conditioned to be robots, not fucking humans. We aren't allowed to have the feelings we do anymore.

No wonder we feel like shit.

And, this is my essay for the day, for no apparent reason, just random occuring thoughts about mental and physical health.

Our lives are based on bettering the economy, as if having a good economy supports everything we need in life. Our lives are governed by social, economic, environmental, factors, in general. The social and environmental are failing because there is too much emphasis on the economic.

A lot of health issues are caused by economic growth... not just the point you were making OP, but also all of the products created to ensure economic growth... everything has gone industrial. Most of the foods that the average american eats were things created for it's cheapness, terribly unhealthy things that are overused and cause health problems, which thereby helps the medical industry grow economically, such as corn syrup. The list goes on and on.

And the point you made OP, is a big one as well. We're so shadowed by our duties as "people" that we really don't even know what it means to be human anymore. There are so many people who are motivated by money and nothing else, that they don't realize that a lot of the things they want can be had without money, not to mention a lot less stress. And the more people that buy into the "get a career where you make a lot of money" thing, when they have no interest in what they're doing except that it makes them money that they're supposed to have, the more people who follow their hearts and their gut, get slammed, and shunned for living their lives. I could really go on and on and on about this, but the advice I've tried to give myself over and over again is to live your life, be open and honest, and let people see by example that they don't have to be a slave to the economy to be healthy, happy, functional members of society.

    Nice thread.
