Hello, I would like to present my theory on god and gods. I do not claim this to be true. Here we go ... There are two types of gods, The cosmic gods and the earthly gods. The cosmic gods create , sustain , and destroy the universe all the time. They don't care about us, won't listen to us , and won't ever communicate with us.They are too busy to do those things. I like to call them the "backround" gods. The earthly gods are extremely less powerfull then cosmic gods, and unlike cosmic gods, they can be created and destroyed. Humans have a small sliver of inherent , divine power to affect the world. When they pool there power around an idea/personality/concept , a god is created. Gods will act in a manner with accordance to the ideas that they were created with; they tend to empower those who follow them, in order to get more followers and to sustain themselves. When humans believe in a god, Worship the god, or commit acts in the name of the god, That god is empowered. The more followers a god has, the more powerfull the god is, and if he has no followers, his power will wane and he will die. I think this theory could explain much about religion . for example, it can explain why there is suffering in the word, a god just does not have enough power to end suffering. I hope you guys like my theory, and please give me your comments and questions.
Seems like your saying peoples actions create the power of a god. So if i was good at hockey it would be because the hockey god is powerful at the same time i made the hockey god powerful....by being good at hockey.
The theory of the Earthly gods sounds like a mix of anthropocentricism, placing humans above all lifeforms on the planet with a Matrix-like sustenance aspect where the God's life force is reliant on humans much like the machines in The Matrix. It's an interesting theory.
Where does the small sliver of inherent divine power come from? The cosmic gods? Or something beyond them?
I'll give you points for realizing that gods are created, their power is related to the number of believers, and they die with no believers. These are all true, of course, because gods only exists inside the believers heads.
Did this "theory" just pop into your head or do you have evidence for it? It actually gives me a feeling of deja vue all over again, something similar to the basic polytheistic religions that were in vogue several thousand years ago. The old time religion has its charm--Aphrodite in her nitie, etc. Maybe you might get a better response if you posted this on the pagan site. The two basic types of pagan cults were fertility religions centered on earth goddesses and their consorts, and astral religions, including sun worship. How is your "theory" different? I guess the main difference is that the gods' power is a function of human support, and that human faith and energy creates the gods, who then develop wills of their own. The basic idea reminds me of the plot to various sci fi movies or episodes on the series Supernatural, where the writer conjures the characters into being just by thinking about them. Interesting idea. We could put it to a test by creating Dawkins' Flying Spaghetti Monster. That would be a blast! All those Pastafarians thought they were being clever with their mock religion, but what if the Spaghetti Monster became real? That would make believers out of them! And we've already been told by New Agers and the Unity Church that quantum theory proves the triumph of mind over matter, and by Depak Chopra that we can create our own reality. So it should work. If we put it to an empirical test, we'd settle this once and for all and bring those deities back to their pantheons just like the good ol' days! But the important thing is : Do you really believe it? If you don't , it won't work.
With this idea of God(s) there is a wholly new way of sharing the existence of creation, for all of mankind, objectively and never quite succinctly nor wholly co-operatively. Objective truth may be like science, like the trust in evolution; but this religion will be at eternal return to subjectivity The only way for truth about God. It will be subjective as of the understanding of fellow human beings in the various rituals and subjectively God will be for the common subjective Truth of God alleviating this much: the fellow understanding of God for anyone and everyone. God is omni-potent.:sultan:
So, in the most basic sense, there are basic forces and then there are more complex human ideas that need human sustaining, is what you're saying... right? You've been reading Rick Riordan, haven't you?
Fine but does the value in empowerment change historically in terms of virtues that matter to ordinary humans as I, good OR bad, beautiful OR ugly, strong OR weak, true OR false?:sultan:
