10 months ago I had to shave my dreads off *weeps* and have regretted it ever since, finally my hair became long enough to dread! so my bestie spent most of today backcombing it.

    My old dreads:

Yaaay! I'm glad for you :)

I am also starting on my dread journey and I'm not even aware of it yet!

This meaning that I haven't brushed my hair in a while and never really consciously making the decision to get dreads, wonder where it will take me ;)

rofl, I hadn't brushed my hair at all yet, just didn't knot... That's why I decided to back comb instead of pure neglect because it'd probably be down to my ass and still not dread on its own.

aww that's good :) I'm glad you feel like yourself again. Your skin is lush! How did you feel with the shaved head? I don't know how I'd feel with one!

Ughh I'm frustrated... Backcombing is great in some places, getting some nice knots and they're staying sectioned but at the back near my neck and the sides (I guess where my pillow sits?) keeps coming COMPLETELY undone and straight, so frustrated!

stick with it and wait it out. Even if your hair was longer it would do the same thing...but especially cuz your hair is short it'll take awhile for the knots to stick in the back.

i backcombed everything, and i still have random chunks straight and doing their own thing. sometimes its annoying, but i have faith one day they'll figure it out.

or they'll just get sucked into surrounding dreads :D

I'm definatley sticking it out, no way would I brush or anything but it's annoying... I'd like for them to stay in some sort of a knot so I don't have this whispy hair crap :(

you could start sticking beads or wraps or something in there to give it some form...

might decrease its chances of knotting up though... :S

I like you better with dark hair! atleast shaving them gave you a better appreciation for your dready locks! I love em btw, they're coming along great.

I think wether a bead or wrap will help depends on the dread and dread encasing item. If it holds lose hair together, it will help it dread, but only if it can move enough. So wraps probably=no, beadss=maybe.

Getting frustrated... they'll just knot up and then something will happen and they'll unravel... sigh

Had to strip my hair back from dye buildup coz it was going black... And you'd think killing my hair would make it knot more... Did the opposite... Getting frustrated!!! advice plz

yeah just wait it out....as your hair grows the knots will have more to knot up with.
