    Interesting.
It appears it was felt in South Carolina, Nova Scotia, and 200 miles out to sea.
It also may have caused the first recorded tsunami in U.S. history 1,000 miles away at the Leeward Islands.

We had an earthquake here a few years ago. A very tiny one..more of a tremor really

It was one of the weirdest sensations I've ever felt. I cant imagine going through a big earthquake

Southern California just had a magnitude 6.6 Earthquake east of Bakersfield. 11 miles from Ridgecrest.

That's deadly powerful, and if California did not have them all the time, if it were someplace else like NYC, very likely people would be dead and the damage would be extensive.

After spending billions of dollars over the past century in Earthquake research, the USGS is no closer to predicting earthquakes then they were back in 1906
when the City of San Francisco was virtually destroyed by a magnitude 7.9 quake

looks like Charles Richter has been proven right “Only fools, liars, and charlatans predict earthquakes.”

This was true, until this year. The latest research has made it possible to predict a wide variety of different types of earthquakes, however, they also provide warning times that vary considerably and you can have more than one type of quake in a given location. Exactly how well they will eventually be able to predict earthquakes is anyone's guess, but they are now well on their way to turning it into an exact science, and it will require decades longer of experimentation with different equipment. Considering a single tsunami in India killed 100,000 people, its money well invested. What will happen to southern California is anyone's guess, but it certainly will not be pretty and is inevitable.

Geology is the most hazardous of all the sciences, and when Mt St Helen blew, it took a trailer off a mountain top ten miles away with a geologist in it. Their sacrifices will not be in vain, and nearby Mt Rainnier is acting up now, which could easily kill a million people.

We just had another earthquake. It was harder than the first one and shook longer.

So the 6.4 earthquake on July 4th really was a foreshock to today's 6.9 event.

    Just updated to a 7.1

I’m watching this clown from the USGS live on ABC7 and I can’t believe the incompetence as she tries to explain what’s happening.
I know it’s a long holiday weekend but I think it’s time to bring back the Varsity team for an event this large.
