Don't you hate the fact that to function in society, for example, most occupations require you to dress a certain way, where your hair a certain way. Can't have visible tattoos, or do something crazy with your hair. They piss test you also, which further proves my point. I just hate having to look a certain way just because society deems this normal I suppose owning your own company is the only way to avoid this, doing your OWN thing.
I've had the same feelings...I've been known to turn down jobs with better pay in favor of jobs that paid a little less, but didn't have restrictive dress codes. And, I go on rants with bosses who feel they may attract a more "conservative" clientele if they just stiffen dress code requirements...bull, in my opinion. Everyone has a right to their own self expression, and this doesn't just refer to the way one dresses. I get so tired of homogenized, cookie cutter, "extreme makeover" society.
My current job is going all corporate and I don't like it. If they choose to fire me on appearance then go right ahead. I'd love to quit anyways.
I hate seeing all the guys in my school with dreads or long hair having to cut it all off because of a stupid job.
I totally understand! I do not have any tattoos (and probably wont ever get one) but when I had dreds it was sooo hard to get a job. I have a nose ring, but its not so bad. I have a job anyway!
it really sucks! you just want to say f*ck it but if you want a good job that pays enough you cant. Even with poor paying jobs they make you do dress up. When will people change!?
According to my Encyclopaedia Brittanica 1967 yearbook, the US Postal Service was the employer of choice for hippies because they could wear what they wanted (I don't know how it is today, but that's how it was back then). Perhaps you could try looking for a job in a similar sort of workplace (ie government-type jobs).
im right with you, also... ive noticed how houses are all designed the same way where I live.... I dunno thats kinda trippy to me. IM NOT SHAVING WORK FORCE!!
Society is so fucked it's not even funny. There are so many unnecessary standards for appearance. What does it matter if the person who wants a job has dreads? What does a dress code for men and women have anything to do with the actual work?
Yea, dress codes and stuff for jobs suck. However, I feel that if an employer wants me to dress a certain way and I don't that's their fault and I probably wouldn't want the job anyway. I have really long, shaggy hair, but I also work/live around alot of Quakers, who don't judge anyone on appearance, so that's all groovy for me.
i think that anyone that wants to change another's appearence just for the good of society is terribly, terribly wrong. i was turned down for a job because of the way i dressed...it sucks steph
Yes it is rather sad how you have to look "nice" for people you don't even know. I don't expect to be working at a job were I will have to look such a way and right now I don't think it realy matters how I look. In the words of Smash Mouth It ain't no joke I'd like to buy the world a toke And teach the world to sing in perfect harmony And teach the world to snuff the fires and the liars Hey I know it's just a song but it's spice for the recipe This is a love attack I know it went out but it's back It's just like any fad retracts before impact And it's just like fashion it's a passion for the with it and hip If ya got the goods they'll come and buy it just to stay in The clique So don't delay act now supplies are running out Allow, if you're still alive, six to eight years to arrive And if you follow there may be a tomorrow But if the offer is shun you might as well be walking on the sun Twenty five years ago they spoke out and they broke out Of depression and oppression and together they toked And they folked out with guitars around a bon fire Just singin' and clappin' man what the hell happened Some were spell bound some were hell bound Some they fell down and some got back up and Fought back 'gainst the melt down And their kids are hippie chicks and hypocrites Because fashion is smashin' the true meaning of it So don't delay act now supplies are running out Allow, if you're still alive, six to eight years to arrive And if you follow there may be a tomorrow But if the offer is shun you might as well be walking on the sun It ain't no joke when mama's handkerchief is soaked With her tears because her baby's life has been revoked The bond is broke up so choke up and focus on the close up Mr. Wizard can't perform no god like hocus pocus So don't sit back, kick back and watch the world get bushwhacked News at 10:00 your neighborhood is under attack Put away the crack before the crack puts you away You got to be there when your babies are old enough to relate So don't delay act now supplies are running out Allow, if you're still alive, six to eight years to arrive And if you follow there may be a tomorrow But if the offer is shun you might as well be walking on the sun Might as well be walking on the sun... Dress in what makes you feel good. What makes you feel cool wether others think it is or isnt.
It's all relative. I don't make a big stink about clothing and style. If I am expected to wear something for a job I'll do it. I don't feel that it takes away from who I really am. I can always dress like I want when I am away from work. Sometimes it's fun to play dress up and wear things I normally wouldn't. Besides, they are paying me to do a specific thing and follow their rules. It isn't going to kill me to do it. If you'd rather not work and make money to support yourself by all means don't follow the rules and don't get a job. If you can find a job that will let you be whatever you want, GREAT! again...it's all relative.
