I have a G3 dual USB 14.1 screen iBook Macintosh computer with OS 10.2 Jaguar operating system on it. Last friday the hard drive died on me, after only two years of use, today it suddnely made it's return with all data intact. I'm reading the apple discussions and there telling me that the logic board is going to go next and that apple will replace the logic board for free, so far I haven't had any logic board problems but they tell me the hard drive is going to die soon, even though it came back. So here I sit waiting for the hard drive to die on me, what do you think I should do reinstall the software or wait for my hard drive to do die the slow horrible death I have been told about. Oh did I tell you about the smelly keyboard? Apple uses decaying plastic to create it's keyboards, when the keyboard is exposed to heat from normal laptop use you get an odor similiar to bad body odor. I have to replace the keyboard for $99.00 and follow vague instructions for replacing the keyboard. Sorry if it seems like i'm complaining but after fighting with apple computer I just feel the need to vent.
So all the data is there, but no OS? I'd install the operating system again, then save all your data and go about your buisness. If it crashes again, it crashes. It's nice that they're using decaying plastic now, I did'nt know they did.
Yea it fucking sucks. In the apple discussion boards the hard drive failures, logic board failures and bad smelling keyboards have been quite a hot topic. There is one guy who say's I should demand a new iBook. Someone suggested I trying repairing the hard drive with diskwarrior, so I might try that and see if it works. btw my OS is there as well as data but don't know how long.
You can always put the hd in a caddy and piggyback it on a home pc and save your info, id suggest selling the pos and getting a new different brand puter however it would suck to pass your bad luck onto another.......
