well, since I may have a few minutes now, I was thinking that I would try and post my labour story. I'll try not to make it too long. well, I was supposed to be induced on Thursday the 29th because I was a week over due and it was really time for her to come out. At 6am on the 27th, I woke up and felt really weird. It felt kinda like I had to poop....so I tried. I went to the bathroom and there was all this mucousy stuff and blood and I was soooo excited! I'd never been so happy to see that much mess in my life! I ran back to the bed room and was finally able to tell my husband that something was happening. We had a doctors appointment that day and I was 1 1/2 cm. That was a nice change from hearing him say that there was nothing happening every weekend before that. The contractions were pretty irregular and were working themselves in a weird pattern. They would generally be 10 minutes apart and were like that all day. The towards the night, they would get closer together, but less painful. Then when they got to being 5 minutes apart, they would stop for a half hour and do the same thing again. It was getting really annoying. We called the hospital, and they told me not to come in until I couldn't walk or talk through them and they were 5 minutes apart. That call was made at about 10pm. I sat in the living room with my mom and husband for an hour and talked and timed them. By 11:45 or so, we told my husband to go get some sleep while me and my mom went and layed down in her bed. I was able to doze off for a whole 5 minutes when I started to have them bad enough and close enough together they were making me squat down on the floor. It was time to go to the hospital. When we got there, I was still only 2 cms, but they said that they were not going to send me home. I went and sat in the shower for about 3 hours, which helped a lot!!!!! I got out at about 4 am, and by 5 am, the nurse gave me some morphine so that I could get some rest. I hadn't slept for 2 nights, so I was tired. By 9 am, the morophine had totally worn off and I was just going with the contractions. The best way that I could deal with them was by moving the bed into a sitting position and grasping onto the handles. I also needed people to just talk to me through the contractions. I was pretty proud of myself, considering every other woman there that day were screaming their heads off! The nurse even said that she was shocked at how well I was doing! Well, by 11 am, I was about 5 cms. They brought in some pitocin and started to speed up the contractions. By 1:30 pm, they had me up to 35 ml/hr of pitocin and it was starting to get pretty painful. I caved and I asked for an epidural........thank god i did! The epidural basically stopped the contactions, so the boosted the pitocin to 72 ml/hr!!! I was able to get some much needed rest for an hour or so, and by 3:30 pm, the nurse said that I was 9 1/2 cms. We started to push by that time and By 4:30 my doctor was there. He said that things were talking a bit too long and I had 3 choices.I could continue to try and push for a while more, I could use forceps or had a c-section. The latter was out of the question, and I said that I wanted to keep pushing. Within a half hour, by 5:05 pm, she was here! My doc was shocked at how big she was and he even shouted "what!?" when they told us she was 9 lbs 3 oz! He had me go in for an ultrasound on sept 9th and they estimated that she would be max 8 lbs. He was concerned prior to that ultrasound that if she was over 9 pounds, that we should do a c-section. I sure prooved him wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did have to get a pretty nasty episiotomy, though. blah. He came over and shook my hand after and said that he didn't think I could do that, especially since I got her out that fast with an epidural! I was so shocked that she was a girl when she came out though, that the first thing I said was, "IS THAT A GIRL!?" EVERYONE was convinced she was a boy (except her dad). I couldn't believe it! She's so cute and perfect! Sadily, after that things went a little down hill and I ended up giving her the flu and she had to stay in the hospital for 3 days. But she's all good and healthy now!
Quite a story! You should save this to give to your child, it'll probably be the best you remember it!
