Hey, like the last post started to explain. I hope you are working your back (lats and delts) as well. There are a lot of people who train improperly. If you are going to do one muscle group (ie your chest) you absolutely positively must do the antaogonist muscle group (ie your back).

Men do this more often than women do. You should also make sure that you are working your lower body just as hard, or you will look ridiculous not to mention cause injury. For a full body routine, check out freetrainers.com or hook up with a personal trainer. Being strong doing an incline (I'm assuming you mean bench press and not fly) doesn't mean shit if you are a weak ass every where else. You need to be functional.

Otherwise, keep up the good work. Keep trying to beat yourself. Don't push too hard and don't forget to rest. The actual muscle building does not happen while you are working out, but during your recovery period.

If you have any questions just email me at jennifer@exercisegirlonline.com cause I don't make it over to these forums too much anymore. Take care of yourself.

    Jen :)

ACE, and soon to be certified also by the national YMCA. And I would never take offense to that question, everyone should find out where their advice is coming from. ACE is nationally accredited if you are wondering. I am also getting a degree in Exercise Science, but that is taking a while since I work full time, train and take classes. Also, no one is paying me to give advice here, actually, it is the oppoiste. I pay skip to keep my forum running, which I don't mind in the least bit. Unlike magazines where you read junk about things they want to sell you. They are in a business to both sell product and magazine, not to help every day people. I just want to make it known that I'm not trying to sell anything. Not even my services because unless you are in Newark DE I won't train you. I simply want people to have the correct information since there is so much shit going around out there. But by all means do some research on your own. They come up with new studies all of the time. :) If there is anything you want to discuss, just let me know.

    Take care of yourself,
    Jen

    Eek.

ACE is not considered a worthwhile certification by anyone but the Bally Total Fitness people. Now, getting yerself a CSCS or a ISSA would be something. I have neither, I can afford neither, but that is some learnin fer ya

Bahhh! yeah ok right. And you are where in the fitness industry? I think you need to do some research. Where are you certified again? I should have known by your previous posts, but I give people the benefit of the doubt. Obviously, my thinking is flawed. In any event, I'll bite you appear to need someone to play with:

NSCA is nationally accredited just as ACE is. Which means they are both held to the same standards. NSCA is a little more prestigious depending upon which part of the country you live in. Here everyone wants you to have ACE, including the Y where I'm a trainer. Not Bally's my friend. Not to mention I'm enrolled in a degree program which, when I'm finished I will be able to sit for ACSM which is pretty much the highest you can go in the industry. However that is not my goal as I plan to work with children. But a degree, in any event, is better than any certification out there.

Here is info on ACE: "In 2003, the American Council on Exercise was granted accreditation for all of its certification programs by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). ACE is one of a few select certifying organizations in the entire fitness industry whose programs have been accredited.

NCCA is the accreditation body of the National Organization for Competency Assurance (NOCA).{NOCA is who all healthcare professionals look to for accreditation} The NCCA accreditation serves as a benchmark on how organizations should conduct certification. There are more than 300 fitness certification programs available to the public. The NCCA accreditation clearly distinguishes the excellence and value of ACE certification and clearly discriminates between qualified and unqualified fitness professionals."

But ISSA... please. Around here, they are not considered at all. I could argue this with you all day as I have with many people who are actually in the fitness industry. Everyone has an opinion on certifications, but the bottom line is that ISSA is not as widely recognized yet as ACE is. I'm not saying it isn't a good cert, but it isn't quite as good as ACE yet. I think you need to speak with some real professionals in the fitness industry to get your information straight and stop relying on Muscle and Fitness. Or better yet go ahead and call some of the gyms in your area and ask them what most of their trainers hold and which ones they would accept/prefer. Unless you are just here to play games and argue with me, if that is the case then I really haven't got the time or the patience for you.

Anyone can certify you. I could get certified by XYZ corporation but it doesn't mean jack. All you are ever getting certified in is whatever they teach. And anyone can call himself or herself a personal trainer even if they aren't certified. And there are a lot of gyms out there who hire uncertified trainers believe me! And passing a certification exam is only a small portion of what you really encounter as a trainer. Most of what we know isn't because it was on some certification exam it is from experience working with people.

It really bothers me when people have been working out for a couple of years and google some terms think they know everything about the industry. If there is anything a good personal trainer knows, it is that no one knows everything and there is always something more to learn.
