I believe you should break up with your girlfriend and then ask her friend out or else ask your girlfriend how she would feel if you were to ask out her girlfriend. Honesty above all else.
So if you are in your teens - here's how it plays out... If they are long time friends and there is no indication that your girlfriend's plan is for a big happy circle of lovin'... then her friend will tease your ass till you make a move and then tell her all about what a jerk you are for coming on to your girlfriends best friend...., and then be there to support your girlfriend through the breakup because they are besties for ever and no guy will come between them. EVER!!! They may even make a bet that there is no way that her friend could get you in bed.... because you two are so in love and she is willing to bet her life you wouldn't jump her friend.... Then ya do and it is game over - because that's just stupid to bet on. But if you are looking at your girlfriends friend like "Damn, I would tamp that shit in a heart beat" well then you can't be too hung up on the girlfriend so ah - go for it. ok maybe there's still some lingering issues from my youth....
