My favourite Documentaries have to be: - Dark Days (music done by DJ Shadow) - Woodstock Director's Cut - Stevie (done by the guy who did Hoop Dreams) - The Weather Underground <-----Deff. see this - Baraka - The Quatsi Trilogy (though #3 is only Ok) - Rivers and Tides - Dig! - Capturing the Friedmens - Bus #174 (Brazillian and hard to get) ...and there is more...much, much more....
I havn't seen Grizzly Man yet...is it good? I have to wait to get back to my homeland of MN to see it- it feels appropriate.
Bowling for Columbine Kurt and Courtney Woodstock My Generation (also about woodstock but in 1969, 1994, and 1999) Grass Supersize Me
Yeah Im glad to see Dark days and the weather underground on there I didnt think many other people have seen Dark days. Grass was really good. Cant think of anything not on the list at the moment.
How about "Vietnam, The Ten Thousand Day War" It's not the world's best documentary, but it's one of the best on Vietnam. And I wish i could find it. Never on TV anymore. No ways to get dvd's, it was made in 1980. All the key figures were interviewed, were still alive and well, and it has a "recent" feel to it. It's less politisized than it would be if made today.
Monterey Pop '67 Woodstock(of course) Legend: Bob Marley(really beautiful) Dogtown and Z-Boys Riding Giants
"bra boys" is incredibly underrated in my view. probably because a) its australian and low budget, hasn't crossed the waters too well and B) the front cover and title make it look like one of those crappy jackass spinoffs. it was actually fairly moving.
Two favorites: 1) One Day In September (1999) - About the hostage crisis at the 1972 Munich summer olympics. Wonderfully done. Difficult to comprehend how incompetent the German police were in resolving the crisis. Also, a killer soundtrack. 2) King of Kong (2007) - [just hear me out here] About the quest to set the all-time high score on Donkey Kong. The story centers on nice-guy Steve Weibe and his quest to break the Donkey Kong record, how he actually breaks the record, but due to internal and nasty politics from then original games, the record is invalidated. I know, 'Who wants to watch a documentary about a bunch of video game nerds?' but trust me, it's interesting as hell.
Fran Lebowitz: Public Speaking Collapse (hard smack in the face) Exit Thru the Gift Shop Art of the Steal (amazing!!!)
