Greetings everyone! Heres a little diary or log book of my dread journey.
    Specs of my dreads
Started on: 1st of April, 2007
Method: Backcombed, tiny bit of wax used on the first few. Bad idea.
    How many: 31
Type of Hair: Thick, Im half asian, half caucasian, so it was quite coarse but at the same time very slippery, if that makes sense.

    And so heres the pics!

    Before:

    2 Weeks:

At this point theyre still behaving themselves. I had a few bright green wraps in them, some of them were a wool/acrylic blend, when I took those wraps out the dreads were nice and tight. The other wraps were a smooth acryclic blend, they looked reaaally cool, but when I took them out the dreads werent in very good condition.

I think here theyre going through pre puberty, theyre very clingy and develop crushes with each other quite easily.

So this is them currently. Theyve gotten VERY crazy VERY fast. Super loopy too! I have wraps in once again, and am now wearing 10-8g sized plugs out of polymer clay!

    Peace!

they look really great so far! i love the wraps. dreads look like tehy really suit you :)

does the polymer clay bug your ears at all? because mine get all itchy if i use polymer plugs (atleast using the brand i made mine out of...)

    Mine are out of fimo.
When i first stretched my ears to a 16g? It was this plastic stuff and it produced a lot of pus... then I went up to approx a 14g (I dont really know about gauges as it was generally what ever thickness i rolled the clay into) and it stopped being quite so icky. but at around a 10g both got infected. Im not sure if that had to do with the polymer clay. But I nurtured them back to good health with salt water, iodine and alcohol swabs. Right now im at around 8g and theyre perfectly fine I think.... Much better than the plastic earings.

As for itchyness I cant say Ive ever felt that. I heard wood plugs (particularly hard wood) are really good for sensitive ears. I was looking at www.omericaorganic.com for a little while, but I figured shipping would be a little to high for 2 plugs

my favorite plugs i have are silicone :) super squishy!! I might have to make a plug out of fimo and see if that works, because i just checked and the one I had tried was sculpey... so maybe the fimo will make a difference.

I love the plugs at omericaorganic. but im too cheap to buy one.

if you are ever looking for resonable priced glass plugs there is a person on etsy who makes amazing one :) Frozenfire.etsy.com

Wraps are about as simple as they sound (apart from the silent 'w' lol). You literally grab a long peice of spun wool (or cotton or whatever) and literally wrap it around your dread. At the root you can make it tight by wraping over the same area heaps of times or tieing it up or a mixture. An you can experiment with it too, but having two threads etc. Its all about expression.

Before I had dreads it put them in by plaiting the first inch, eventually theyd grow out a bit and id be left with a dreaded root. Thats what got me thinking about having dreads.

I'd probably only leave the wrap in for around a month or so. But I really have no idea about that as Ive only had my dreads for 1-2 months. Once you take them out, the dread seems really tight, but after a wash they go back to thei original, or almost original size. Some people say that they help know the dread up, but I dont think its true, If anything it would reverse the process. But once again, I only have experience with baby dreads, and Im sure it would be different with mature dreads.

Knotty Rye: Id love to see your dread blog! I love watching the transformations of dreads! I saw this one blog of this guys dreads for 2 years, it was crazy as! Which makes me think of this thing on youtube....

Theres quite a few like that, but thats my favourite.

3 Months today! Wow, time has flown past! I took out most of the red wraps and put in a rainbow one last week. I also got my nose pierced!! My current maintenance routine is basically washing them every 3-4 days, ocassionally spraying salt water unto them, and ripping them apart.
    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

The plan for the next month is...: Add a few more Rainbow wraps and take out the rest of the red ones, and change my stud to a sleeper. Yay!!! Im really happy with the way their going, It seems the more they mature,- the faster they mature!
    Peace!
