You know how people do shit like split their tongue in half, sharpen their teeth and all? I saw some shit where people cut the very top of their ear, put a stitch into it and make it pointy like an elf. I'd like to get that done. I'm just wondering if anyone here has anything similar or knows anyone who does, and what it was like.

I dunno... when you're 65, do you really want to have the conversation with Muriel about why your ears are so pointy? Just on the off-chance that you might regret it, I'd hold off on the ear thing for a few years. If you still want it after awhile, then do it. Just think about it, if when you were seven and you had the oppurtunity to change your body permanently, would you be very happy with the muppet tattoo on your forearm when you were 21 and applying for a job?

Honestly, that could be applied to ANYTHING you do in life. If you get a tat when your 24, there's no way to know if you'd still like it at 34. Think of all the people who get tribal art put on them now just because it's trendy, most of them will probably hate that shit 15 years from now. I'm not talking about getting my ears severely pointy, just a little like the elves in LOTR. No vampire or demon ears. No Dr Spock ears. Just something that's not terribly noticable.

I wouldn't have gotten a muppet tat when I was seven. It probably would've been a dragon or a rose or some 80's shit...Def Leopard forever.

Spock was'nt a doctor. He is Mr. Spock.

Anyways, about the muppet thing.. my sister, when she was sixteen, got elmo tattoed on her leg. Not the name, but an actual picture of elmo. Christ, what a dumbass. She just got it inked over, with a equally ridiculous tattoo.

I suppose if I watched enough star trek I would've known that, LOL. Oops.

There's this one chic in pink's "Just like a pill" video (at least i think that's the name of the song...Shit i probably got that one wrong too) that has the phases of the moon tattooed on her back...it looks so great but I don't know if I'd ever want anything that noticable on me.

MJISH, I bet it would kinda hurt to kiss someone with vampire teeth. At least it might if they scraped you with em. I bet they'd probably be into biting.

I absolutely hate it when people ask me "how are you gonna feel about your tattoos/piercings when youre 80?" questions. Do they honestly believe I don't have the capacity to think ahead? That if I were truly 'mature' I would never visibly modify my body? Nobody ever asks the woman with implants how shes gonna feel when shes 80 and everything has gone south except her chest.....

I guess my point is this: Modifying ones body is a personal choice, be it through tattoos or other more uncommon mods-it's really nothing that can be deemed a 'good' or 'bad' idea by anyone but the individual in question.

Moonshyne-do some research and see if an ear modification is really something you want to do-and if it is, go for it and f*ck anyone who criticises your choice.

How old are you? If you are under 25 I would advise you to wait before you make such a drastic desicion such as body modifycation. It's not like a piercing that you can just remove when you get sick of it, and trust me, the things you want at 16 or 17....or even 18 and 19 are not the things you will want when you get into the later part of your life. I dunno, I really cant speak for you, but that is very true for most.
Even me, I got 3 tatoos all before the age of 20....my first one at 15.....and I wish now that I had waited. I think, gosh, if I already dont like them at 23 then how am I going to feel about them when I am 40? Do you think that when you are 40 you are going to want elf ears? I am not trying to tell you what to do, but only that you should definatley take some time to think about it. If in a few years you still want it, then it might be the way to go. But dont act on impulse.

    Heya babe.
Firstly, vampire teeth... dont go there. Nothing to do with "you wont like them" its more to do with "they ruin your teeth" My friends dad had them filed into points (which is how they do it perminantly) they used to cut his lips and tounge... imagine when u bite ur lip, cheek or toung now by accident how much that hurts? now add on 2 spikey vamp teeth to that :p So he had them filed down even more to flatten them off again...ooooh dear! he now has terrible teeth problems because the nerves are almost bare.
As far as elf ears go i warn you for those too. Ivenot had them (no desire to myself) but ive got a cartilage piercing and ouchy!! out of the 8 piercings ive had done it was the most painfull. I had it done last halloween, and now over half a year later the damn thing still hasnt healed properly. The problem is with cartalage (as that is what they would have to cut for you to have elf ears) is it takes a lot longer than flesh to heal and with it being your ears... well youd be supprised how often you touch your ears. OUCH i had problems sleeping for months.

But as long as you have considered all the possibilities, pros and cons... go ahead.
There are things ive considered but never had done after considering them and now i look ack im glad i didint. I almost got my clit pierced when i was 16, instead i got my lip done, i chickened out. and oh my am i glad i did!! Also tatoos, i keep considering getting one but still after about 2 years ofconsidering i still havnt.

    good luck!!!

OOH, OOH, I CAN ANSWER THIS ONE!!!
*jumps up and down waving arms*

I nearly sliced the top of my ear off when I was 8. Right through the cartilage and all. I had stitches to put me back together, and I can tell you, in 23 years the cartilage has not healed . The skin around it is what is holding me together, and there is a visible line where the slice was. I'd post a pic if I could.

Everyone seems to be under the assumption that i'm 16 or 17....do I really sound that young? Thank you stormyy for being the only really supportive person here. :)
Ummm, I'll be 25 in about 5 months......so I don't see what difference it would make if i do it now or then. :p

About the cartilidge thing. I know how painful it is, I've had mine pierced for about 8 years now. LOL, and I was NOT ever suggesting getting vampire teeth for myself, I don't want them! Thank you everyone for being so concerned though and offering your advice, but I'm a big girl (^.^) I really started this thread to find out what everyone thought of so-called mutilations in general, not just whether or not I should do it.

well in that casei think mutations are a great expression of self at the time when they are done however everyone changes in personality so they then become an expresion of who someone once was. I have nothing against them but i dontthink id personall go past piercing and tatoos (although i gues lobe stretching like im in the process of doing is kind a mutation)

Ah...well....seeing as though you are 25 (almost) then just disregard what I had to say. I was under the impression that you were a teenager...dont know why.
As far a mutations go in general.....I dont have anything against it...I dont find it exceptionally weird or anything, but I dont find it attractive. The elf ears, maybe, But when people split thier tounge It is just a tad disturbing to me. I wouldnt ever do anything like that...but for those that do, more power to ya!

I think that modifications (the term mutilations brings to mind something negative and harmful) are very meaningful and spiritual to the person recieving and performing them. Any schmo can go get their toungue pierced (not that there is anything wrong with that, mine is pierced) but it takes serious balls and desire to have your ears scalpeled or have other hardcore mods-many people that take mods to another level find the whole experience to be very enlightening. Do some research on body modification-each one has a long and rich history behind it, and almost all were part of some sort of ritual or rite of passage.....ancient indians werent tattooing and piercing each other because all the other kids were doing it :p

As for the age thing-there are 25 year olds who have the mentality of a 12 year old and vice versa. Most people who are serious about their mods arent gonna be worried about what the folks at the nursing home are going to think about their tatts or piercings (or pointed ears for that matter)when they are 80, the mods are a part of you as much as your left arm or big toe-not merely decoration.

Yes. That was exactly my point. No matter what age you are, you need to seriously consider any permanent change to your body. If only because your mindset changes. You're most likely a completely different person now than when you were seven. You'll be a different person ten years from now, what you need to decide is wether or not you're sure that that person will still be into pointy ears.

I didn't really believe that the opinion of someone on a message board was going to change her mind about anything. I wasn't trying to patronize her or anyone else who has undergone or is considering undergoing body modification. And I definately wasn't condemning the idea, I was just throwing my two cents in. It's a message board, a place specifically designed for people to throw cents. In short: I'm sorry if my post sounded overly confrontational or as if I was bashing body modification, I understand that in some cases the modification has a spiritual meaning and is not simply ornamentation and therefore is taken very seriously by some.

I am fully aware of the purpose of a message board, and thats why I threw my 2 cents in-I wasn't trying to lash out at anybody. I guess as a modded person, I am asked why I chose to get my tattoos and piercings EVERYDAY. People ask me if I ever thought about how I will feel about my mods when I am older, and my response is that they are a part of me-just as much as my skin is. When I am 80, my tatts and piercings will likely be the least of my worries, so I really don't understand what the big deal is.
If an individual decided that they want to modify their body, let them. Hopefully they will have done the research and decided that this is truly something that they want to do. If they have not, and do end up regretting the decision, then they will have to live with that-not you.
