music?

    I will be trying Salvia for the first time pretty soon. I have done a lot of research on it and know that the setting is very important, including having a good sitter who understands the drug and will act maturely (I've seen the youtube vids). I was wondering if it is a good idea to play music while you do it and if so, what kinds? any suggestions? I have heard a lot of stories of people having really scary, bad trips, so I want to make the surroundings as peaceful as possible. I know its still possible for me to have a scary experience, but my point in doing it is to experience a deeper level of understanding (of myself, the universe, or anything really lol), so I'm prepared to take that risk.     Music can be good and bad. There is no real way of knowing whether you will enjoy it or hate it until you are tripping and it is playing.

    More than likely, your first experience will not be all the great, you probably will feel it is somewhat of a bad trip, however, with a good sitter and in a comfortable and safe setting, it is VERY unlikely it will be in any way unsafe.

    The biggest piece of advice I can give, isnt really about music, its more on the line of your mindset.

    You should be in a somewhat dim room, too many lights usually suck. If you do want music, have it somewhat at a lower level, and make sure it is something that is calming and enjoyable to you. Sometimes it helps me to have something to focus on, Ill sometimes leave the TV on in the other room, that way after the peak effects wear off if I happen to feel panic I can go to the other room and sort of regain ego and sense of self and reality alot faster by having something to focus on once the peak effects are wearing off. This may or may not be helpful, and looking at a TV even when peak effects are wearing off can just be annoying.

    The biggest piece of advice I can give in general though, is when the effects start to come on, let go. Alot of times youll want to sort of fight and keep a sense of self or reality but fighting will make it a bad trip almost every time.

    As the effects are coming on, right when you still sort of have "ego" and sense of self but have a couple seconds of a "losing it" feeling, just let yourself go, the ability to let go can be the difference between and insightful experience and a panic filled experience.

    Like I said though, with a good sitter (which alot of times is more of a support and someone there to take away the feeling of isolation in my opinion) there is no real danger even if you DO have a really scary trip. You will most likely be unable to control yourself during peak effects, so trying to jump out of a window or some crazy shit like that is unlikely, and as long as you dont freak and try to get up and run to another room or something, its not likely that youll stand up and try to walk since it will be extremely difficult if you were to try to.

    This post is going on and on so Ill sum it up and answer your question. Music may or may not be a good thing, youll have to see how it is with you, everyones experience varies. Tips as far as what to listen to if you choose to. Something you enjoy, something that isnt too loud or fast (mellow music is generally better for most i would think) and have it at a somewhat lower level, and have it set up to where you friend/sitter can quickly shut it off if needed.

    I agree with captainblack, especially about the letting go part. It may seem like fun to listen to trippy/crazy music (Battles, Animal Collective, etc.) but I personally wouldn't suggest it. It can really freak you out.

    I think I'm going to go make a post about this now...

    thanks for the great advice....I'll really keep it in mind when I'm getting ready. I'm going to try and calm my mind as much as possible. I've never done meditation, but I'll attempt something like that to try and open myself up and relax.

    I was thinking more along the lines of relaxing meditation music to listen to. I admit I don't have the widest variety of music, or really know much about stuff outside the mainstream radio bands, so I have no clue about that type of music.

    I recommend silence. I think that a very dimly-lit room, with no music, and as little background noise as possible (no whirring/buzzing/humming machines, etc) is the best environment for a salvia divinorum experience.

    I have always found it nice to be in my bedroom chillin with my friends, where we can just watch tv or fall asleep or whatever. I like to put on some light music in the backround such as Ravi Shankar. If you don't know who he is, look him up....excellent trippin music (he's one of the origional trippers that chilled with the beatles)
