What's everybody into on this forum? Some of my favorite artists include Phish, moe., Steely Dan, Cake, Beck, MMW, Ryan Adams, Grant Green, etc. I'd like to think I have a pretty healthy variety in my collection.
I'm not really a madonna or cher fan.. I like a lot of different music, phish, moe., talking heads, radiohead, violent femmes, ween, les claypool/primus, cake, sigur ros, j5, pearl jam, etc. There are many more...
Are Cake much bigger in America than over here or something? I wouldn't have imagined anyone would mention them in their top 10 bands. I'm all about Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Sonic Youth, The Paper Chase, Radiohead, Bjork, Mogwai... a load of stuff that doesn't get you laid, basically.
Here they were just another one of those American alternative bands that had a couple of top 40s and were being touted as the next big thing but never took off, like Guided By Voices.
Jazz: Joe Henderson, McCoy Tyner, Ahmad Jamal, Larry Young, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders, Andrew Hill, Yusef Lateef, Charles Mingus, a bunch more... Rockish/Poppish: Goo Goo Dolls, Coldplay, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Flaming Lips, the Shins, the Sauce, Throwback, Counting Crows, Dave Matthews Band, more... Classical: Rachmaninoff, Debussy, some more, can't think right now... I'm kind of a music freak.
Who cares about hits? They have good music and their style is completely unique. They're not just "another one of those" bands. Also, they are still together...
I didn't mean it like that, just that they were kind of a one-hit wonder over here so it was kinda surprising to find people listing them among their favourite bands.
You're telling me: ^^^ NOT GAY. I think it's because our top ten is governed largely by Pop Idol and our "indie" music press is divorced from reality. I don't know if America's any different, but I do hope.
My music is all over, mostly indy pop. I have 4,819 songs on my iTunes -I'm expecting my hard drive to crash any day now. Cake is cool, have you heard their cover of "I will survive?" I go through phases. I still like The Dandy Warhol's and Sneaker Pimps and Sultans Of Ping a lot. But at the top right now? Gorillaz, Scissor Sisters, Bright Eyes, Eels, The Faint, Spoon (sister jack piano demo!), Nachlader, Arctic Monkeys, Art Brut, Goldspot, Wir Sind Helden. Old stand-bys: David bowie (pre 1982), Iggy Pop, Fatboy Slim, Patty Smith, Can, Moby, The Ramones, Roxy Music, Nirvana. indi: Belle & Sebastian, Of Montreal, Razorlight, The Killers, Sondre Lerche, Xiu Xiu, Aphex Twin, John Vanderslice, The Thrills, The Shins, sigur ros. folked up: Devendra Banhart, Adam Green, Joanna Newsom
Thought I'd bump this thread and make it a kind of a music recommendation deely, rather than start a fresh one. Go listen to this band, it's the gayest thing I've heard since the Blood Brothers.
Well,Phish would be my favorite,i love moe.,also,the dead,beatles,floyd,mmw,sts9,ben kweller,radiohead,keller,etc.
