Without music, life would be a mistake! Music is my passion! I love it so much, I couldn't live without it... I'd like to know what's everyone's favorite types of music, and favorite artists/bands/singers/etc. A way to know each other better, also, I didn't want to leave the new Europe forum like this, without 1 music thread at least! So, as some of you might know already (if you've been here for at least 2 years!), I'm a huge Beatles fan... I'm into all kinds of rock, from British invasion to psychedelia to hard-rock, to punk-rock, to prog-rock... also pop music BUT not shit dance-pop or commecial songs that were created with artificial instruments on a computer and with the same stupid lyrics that weren't even writen by the singer but by a specialist who spends his/her life writing songs for stupid teens and give them to people like Britney Spears... I mean stuff from the 60's-70's of course and also from today, like, for example, Blur... I'm also into folk music, soul, blues, jazz, classical, and some experimental stuff. To name all the artists I'm a fan of would take me an hour, but I make a top 10 of my favorites at the moment: * The Beatles (+ solo careers, especially Lennon and Wings) * The Rolling Stones * Pink Floyd * Jimi Hendrix * Janis Joplin * Bob Dylan * The Doors * The Who * Led Zeppelin * The Velvet Underground As for modern bands, my favorite at the moment are the Strokes, I'm such a huge fan of their last album, Room On Fire -
My Top Ten is: - The Byrds - The Who - The Mamas and Papas - Scott McKenzie - Bob Dylan - Jimi Hendrix - Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young - Cat Stevens - The Doors - Simon&Garfunkel I don't like most of todays music... stupid music, stupid lyrics, no message, only money.
The Beatles(also solo, specially George and JOhn) Rage Against The Machine The Cranberries Art Of Noise .. various stuff...seriously, about everything, but reggae/ska, rock(of pretty much every kind) mainly.
Don't be so negative... there is so much great music today, you just have to look for it a little harder! If you need advice, don't hesitate, I'm here!!

Just like the rest of you, I listen to a lot of different stuff. I love folk music, especially the Balkan kind (with emphasis on gypsy orchestras), but when it comes to pinning down a few favourite bands, I'll stick to more 'conventional' bands: 1) Joy Division 2) Sixteen Horsepower (no particular order): Bob Dylan Tindersticks Slowdive Dead Can Dance Siddharta bob hund Johnny Cash Skinny Puppy Cranes Stina Nordenstam Lisa Germano Scheer etc....... peace -Pat
very hard to select 10 groups or artists, but i will try, i couldn't give them an order: TooL NIN Placebo The Doors Nirvana RATM Deftones Berri Txarrak Ktulu Pearl Jam and many more, but they are too much... it's great to listen to very different music styles.
The Beatles The Stones Floyd Can Velvets Hendrix Soft Machine Dylan Nick Drake Doors This is in no order at all, and anyway, lot's of these would make it into my top 20 but probably not top 10 if I sat down and thought about it for an hour. I exclude so many important ones. Oh well, that's life. I like 60's pop, I like the avant-garde/expiramental scene of the 60's and 70's (Velvets to CAN to Gong to Zappa etc. for those not clear), rock (many kinds) soul, jazz and more more more.
Like the rest of you, I like a lot of different types of music, from classical to rock, and I love violin music(I play the violin) particularly Stephan Grapelli and gypsy violin music. But ten favourite bands/artists(this is going to show my age!) Peter Gabriel Bruce Springsteen Joni Mitchell Caravan REM Janis Joplin Marvin Gaye early Genesis Simon and Garfunkel Willy Nelson Thats todays list, tomorrow it could completely change!
Like wiuf I'm really into the avant-garde/experimental scene of the 60's and 70's, I'm a huge fan of CAN, GONG, Frank Zappa, etc. The Planet Gong forum that wiuf and I created about a year ago will be back soon, and people who share the same tastes can join us!
Ataries Greatful Dead Pink Floyd John Mayor Steve Miller Band Aerosmith Travis Tritt Beatles Sheryl Crow Willie Nelson The Donnas And many more but I have drawn a blank Peace and Love to alllllllllllll
Nick and Laety already know my tastes well, but these are some of my favorite artists: Can The Jimi Hendrix Experience Pink Floyd Miles Davis John Coltrane The Beatles King Crimson The Velvet Underground Brian Eno The Talking Heads Aphex Twin Radiohead R.E.M. I have multiple albums of all of these artists. There are also many artists that I don't have much of, maybe one or two albums, but whom I still like, such as: (Early) Genesis Prince Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention Sonic Youth Tool Tangerine Dream Sigur Ros Marvin Gaye David Bowie James Brown Santana Television I cannot express in words how much I love music. The things that it can (and does) do for people is simply unprecedented.
