I like a fairly broad variety of music from various different epochs and genres but, admitedly their are certain artists and even genres that I really struggle to see the appeal of.

Radiohead would probably be the biggest artist I don't 'get' (I think instrumentally they are a pretty good band) I just really can't stand Thom Yorke's awful, whingy singing voice! I also don't much care for screamy metal music & most rap music & jazz.

    So.....how about you?

I like all music, as long as it is opera. :yum::yum::yum:

Which is fine but to say it's not music is kinda insulting to its fans

I can appreciate all sorts of music from rap to dance to country to death metal to classical and I will find someone im interested in all genres but that isn't to say I'll like everything in that genre. I'm fairly particular to sounds and styles I like and enjoy different music for different reasons and sounds.

I guess country. But in all fairness, I've never really listened to country. I've heard it but I've never listened to it...if that makes sense. And i think if you stop and listen and pay attention to music you can "get" it. But the sound isn't really interesting enough to make me listen.

whatever genre is nickleback/five finger death punch/puddle of mud/etc, is not music and its fans deserve to be insulted.

i don't know, how would it be music?

  13. Sometimes it's too self-indulgent to be music. Music has to come from the heart. If it's just a manufactured cash grab it really isn't music. But then again, I'm horrible at guitar, so what do I know.

Idk...rythm? Melody? Instrumentation? I'm sorry. I'm not someone who knows the music lingo. I mean, I can't describe it perfectly, but...isn't that what makes music music? Not trying to be mean, but saying something isn't music requires some kind of explanation

not really. i'm sure it technically fits the definition of music, i was just being mean to the people who listen to it. they don't mind, the fact that they listen to that show a certain amount of masochism.

I initially read your op as if you were making a distinction between dislike and don't get.

Blink-182 would be a band I don't get in the sense that you mention Radiohead. They have a talented drummer but nothing else in the music appeals to me. However pop punk was pretty big at the time with Green Day and Offspring, those bands still had a punk aesthetic and appearance, so I get how a boy band-ish pop punk band like Blink 182 became popular.

Dubstep I didn't really get. I was at the peak of my raving years when I was introduced to it at an underground in San Francisco where they had been playing amazing psytrance and electrohouse for about a year. Then they brought out dubstep djs from the UK and the vibe was just way different, way less dancing and then it blew up like maybe a year later.

I didn't totally get that one either. And I listen to more techno than most DJs probably do. I never adequately understood what dance I was supposed to do to it. :)

Recently changed up my listening in the old vehicle... I swapped around some alternative channel for something more indie and changed from one sort of techno to a more chill sort. All on satellite radio.

Heard a bitchin' take of "Tweezer" by Phish on that satellite radio tonight! :)

I just don’t get Country music

I get the 1910s Ragtime music, the 1920s Shimmy and the Charleston, The 1930s Swing, The 1940s Big Band Music, 1950s B-bop and Rock N Roll, 1960s British invasion and Motown, 1970s Rock N Roll and Disco,
1980s Glam, Rock, and Hip Hop, 1990s Rap and Alternative, 2000s Contemporary and R&B, and Hip Hop

I even love classical music and opera, but IMHO Country Music with few exceptions is GARBAGE
